You have a rare land rover version of their "cross flow" head....well I guess it's not so rare.

Yup; I was hopin' to make it to one of the rallies last weekend; Sunday before, runnin' along the highway shakin' things down, it ended up that it was getting hot when running down the road, then cooling down when pulled over at idle..... that was the clue that it was probably the head gasket.

Next day, once cool, did a compression test..... 140, 141, 140, 138.... warmed it up to operating temperature, then did the compression test again, and it was 141, 141, 87, 89. Gasket arrived on Monday. Had Friday off, pulled the head, and 'thar she blows'..... snapped that pic then. Got the new gasket in and the head back on, didn't get it quite wrapped up last night as it got dark, so, finished it up this morning.... been drivin' around today, running *much* stronger, too....

Still have some other bits to shake out, wrap up, etc., but it's functional now....

Congrats on getting the dirty deed done! And even more thanks for the pic, I love to look at stuff like that and reference for future needs.

No problemo, glad to provide pics that might be of help......

It's been a long slow trip gettin' this thing 'finished'.... okay, they're never finished, but, it's on the road now. I've been workin' at a lackadaisical pace, shouldn't have taken so long. Learned a lot along the way, there's a lot that I wish I had done differently early on, but, don't have the heart to go back an redo all (but, have some things).

Anywho.....
