Looking to buy my first handgun. General purpose/home defense use.
Opinions on this handgun? I've done some reading and its gotten pretty good reviews, good mag capacity, and a good pricepoint for me as I'm not looking to drop a grand right now.
Thoughts?

You can own handguns in IL? Jk

I would suggest the HK VP9 or a Glock in 9mm. With a good hollowpoint such as Hornady Critical Defense or Winchester Ranger rounds you will be good to go. A bunch of the big name instructors are strong proponents of the 9mm these days.

I'm pretty well set on caliber.
Glocks.......IDK what it is but I just can't bring myself to owning one.
I'll add the VP9 to my list. I still have to get into a shop and get my hands on some to make the final call. Need to bring my wife with as she may be a limiting factor. :(

I've got an XD-S in .45

I'm happy with it. I'm not firearms expert, but I expected such a small handgun to be uncomfortable or at least a little hard to control in .45 but I actually like it better than some .40 I have fired.

I like XDs; have an XD in .40 and cannot say anything bad about it. Personally I would look at what you are going to use it for in greater detail. If it is going to be a bed stand type of gun, the size is not an issue and you can go bigger (full frame). For concealed carry, in any weather, a bulkier 45 is harder to hide, so I would personally recommend a smaller option (e.g. M&P Shield). To me, the compact/sub 'large' guns fail to address either category in full. If you are truly going to carry it, etc. I would really think about the size. Just my opinion.

none of your fucking business
I've got the Smith & Wesson M&P Sheild 9mm.

Im a big guy, and even though it's not a big gun, it fits in my hand just right. I feel like I have total control over it when firing the 9mm round. My brother has the same gun in 40.

It's less than an inch wide, conceals great with a crossbreed holster, and comes with a 7 round concealed mag and an 8 round extended mag. I just usually keep the extended mag on and the concealed mag close, it's not any problem for me to conceal the extended mag and it fits my hand the best.

just my $.02

Also, another note...this was the gun that a stupid cunt and I agreed on for both of us to be able to use. I would probably still go buy the same gun regardless but, she was able to use it, though with less control than I had because of the small frame of the gun.

Exactly. That's what I like about mine (same one as you have). It fits my hand great, does not feel like a sub compact and conceals well.

Shoot plenty of examples of all .45s in your price range, pick which feels best in your hand, what you shoot best, and what meets your CCW needs most. I have an XD9 and XD45, both two of my favorite guns. I am getting a XDs 9 next, great gun. Good luck.

So I pulled the trigger on it.
Monday my wife and I went up to the Gander Mountain. The place was dead and the guy behind the counter was very happy to talk guns to a couple newbs. We held a ton of guns including the XDM45.
Gander's price was pretty high so I shipped around online a bit.
Ended up buying the BiTone XDM from Grabagun.com, yes the name is kinda gay.
Anyways, $650 including shipping and FFL transfer fee.
