Shop sharing...?

Are there places (specifically in Houston) that have a shop that I could share, for some membership fee or something. For people that live in apartments and have an old junky Land Rover that they want to work on, not in the apartment complex parking lot. Sorta like a time share.

Does something like that even exist?

I've wondered this too, and I wish it existed. It would be nice to start something like this up and charge some sort of membership fee. Of course you would run into problems with liability...

Wish I could tell you that I knew of one.

Garagetown looks pretty cool. Looks like a good way to free up some space in my garage and get the added bonus of locking my A4 away from my wife while I'm away at work.

The military hobby shops friking rule, I think I spent a straight year in the one at Pendleton when I had my Jimmy. A disaster for a business though, people will steal tools, in addition to the stuff that is just plain lost and broken. Could be on to something if you are talking about just the space with either lots or lots with lifts in them like the military setup has.

Now the garage condo I wasn't even aware that type of thing existed, I will have to contact my Realtor!

Both garage town and ultimate space start at over 60 grand. Thats a lot of months rent at a storage unit or find some old warehouse somewhere and start your own. My father in law lives in austin and rents an airport hanger where he hides from his wife and works on MG's. I think that costs him around a hundred bucks a month.

That would build one heck of a garage.

FWIW the car talk guys on NPR started a place like this in the 70's but soon discovered they were doing all the work for people anyway.

My dad said they (the DIY garages) were popular up until the 70's. Would be nice, not everyone has the tools or the room to do it themselves. I used to work on my truck in the parking garage of my old company. I had free reign of the area and no one to bother me.
