So far three family members have lost there homes... And now a possible fourth, my Uncle in Ramona might loose his. The water was cut off so much for keeping his flat roof wet.... He just spent the last 2 years and about 100K fixing the place up...
I have a 7000 gph sump pump, and bought a generator on Monday - figured should anything get close, I'd have enough in my swimming pool to keep my house and backyard wet.

On the other hand, if stuff is burning all around your house, the glass will shatter eventually, and that might let the embers ignite the house from inside. I hear that was happening a lot.

Way to go...

I had thought about rigging up a temp sprinkler system on my roof to give it a water curtain that will keep the temp down... One drawback i needed a pool... With a hose you can only get so much wet... Keep it safe and hope to see you soon...

What does that have to do with Democrats? It was an order by Major General Sherman.

What party continually tries to buy votes by promising government entitlements?

Quote from your source

"Because of this, the phrase has come to represent the failure of Reconstruction and the general public to assist African Americans".

It might be a stretch connecting the 2 but i think it applies in todays political climate as well as in the 1860s.. 30 Million in illegals makes a lot of voters.... Give them full constitutional protection, give them all the social programs, give them drivers license so they can VOTE.... 40 acres and a mule...

I think you have all watched red dawn one to many times...

The only way to get F*CKED in a disaster is if you dont leave when your told, you get caught in the middle, or the disaster is spread over 300 miles. Otherwise you just drive out.

Seriously some dipshit just mentioned that if his car broke down and a law enforcement agent told him to leave his car behind he is going to draw a gun on the law enforcement officer. WHAT A DIPSHIT.

Have fun asshole. You are the person I am always talking about when I talk about people in general.

Yes it would - but it would take tremendous amounts of water. My pool isn't _that_ large. And I have an acre of glass doors and windows in the house.

I'd probably go out and cut down eucaliptus trees behind the backyard - even if my HOA fines me for it later. But I wouldn't have any fuel close by.

Peter,

My wife heard on the news today that upon exiting the Qualcom SD Police were trying to get a census on where the evacuees were from. 2/3 of the people polled were not there because of the fires. Illegals, homeless and scammers.... Sad but things like this bring out the best and worst in humanity....

Man, what does it take to check the driver's license at the gate???
In any case, hobos or not, it looks like nobody had to spend the night under the skies.
With half a million people moved out, I can't imagine them all sitting out at the Q or at the racetrack - and things went pretty much as smooth as they could.

Ah, ok. I was thinking one about like mine, about 16x30, would give you about 2-3 hours with a 7000gph pump. It doesn't have to be a solid wall of water to protect. A heavy mist would do it.

If you're been evacuated, how do you turn the pump on and monitor it?

You fire up the generator, start the pump, and stay home.
Nobody can force you out of your house - but if you're out, they won't let you back.
