Just saw some interesting photos of a new RTE concept bumper for the LR3. Its for the rear bumper. Comes in two pieces, ships inexpensively, and can be man-handled/installed by one person. The prototype is a lot rough still, but it shows promise and is certainly an interesting concept. Per the LRL Magazine blogroll, the bumper will have lots of options for swing-away mounted add-ons. LRL Mag took it to "Hummer Hill" that is a man made 60 degree ramp that tests approach and departure angle. Check it out:

No affiliation to RTE, just posting LR3 related news. Curious to see what SafariGard does next. I love seeing the aftermarket tackle the LR3!

I dig the lines of that bumper. I'm not digging the tire carrier too much, but I like the bumper.

Michaels,
Obviously, that's not the finished product. It's just the basic shape of what's to be. You've got to envision it skinned, welded, and finished.

I saw it at SCARR and it looks really good, lots of protection. I need one bad ha! I'm with Dan on the tire carrier, I'm sure there's a reason, but all the carriers available stick way out and it looks weird. I don't really care for diamond plating either, but can just order it without.

The front bumper looked great too, love the color coding and fogs.

skinned? Sounds heavy. The carrier needs to be tucked up against the body much more, the tube looks bad, and the retainer pin doesn't look right.

The front looks really nice, has someone new taken over the design work since the company was sold?

x2! The front bumper looked great painted to match the truck. The rear was nice and looked like it protected well. I don't recall the diamond plating being on it at SCARR though. The tire carrier does stick out a bit far, but I like the concept of what it does. I am going to get a DII bumper from Jordan and have him do a swing out carrier for me.

Looks pretty finished to me, and ugly. I agree on the tire-carrier, just looks funky. The diamond plate where it meets in the middle could stand to fit better, but that could be installer error. Also looks like getting to the pin and loosening the shackle is going to suck. Nice to see another option, but there's a lot of room for improvement in the looks department.

I like the "concept" of the split/recessed bumper but the tire carrier is clearly not optimized - likely just a rough/quick build to get something for that event weekend, which is ok and good for the design process.

Obviously I didn't design or build my Kaymar rear bumper but I did have some modification ideas that were implemented such as moving the tire inboard to reveal the right rear lamps and then a 2" receiver adaptation to allow a hitch mounted bike rack to be held by the carrier arm rather than requiring the actual low hanging tow hitch or just hanging off the tire itself (for which bike carriers are only able to hold 2 bikes - hitch type can hold 4+)

This also keeps the bikes away from the ground if traveling off road ... or tight parking in the dangerous city ;) The bike tires are above most car hoods and therefor more safe from rear collisions too. This mount also reduces the number of things to "open" before getting to open the actual rear hatch doors.

The tire carrier on the RTE rear bumper is too high (isn't it best to keep as much weight as low as possible?) with wasted space either above or below it. This bumper does not take into account the loss of some passenger side visibility of the rear lamps either - only worsened by 32" tires.

The Kaymar, while not necessarily built the strongest, does have the very cool, and well protected, inset lamps fully functioning as rear signals, warning, brake/fog lights. They would not be hard to incorporate into the RTE between the two round cross tubes and would ad a dimension of modernism like the front bumper conveys so well.

I like the lines. The front bars need to be more beefy, to balance the bumper. On the rear the tire carrier is terrible, it should be lower and closer to the vehicle. They are a lot better than what else is out.

I saw this bumper when I had my Range there getting a front bumper..... These things look awesome..... I saw someone mention weight, I don't know what it is, but I know the air suspension will level it out.... Although added weight is still added weight, but protection is more important to me.

I like both the bumpers but on the rear, where do you hook up your trailer electronics? It looks all covered up.

You would have to be a fucking idiot to buy that truck after Jason has owned it.
