My other cars / suv are a 02 Isuzu trooper I drive for work (which is being traded on a 05 nissan pathfinder when it comes in), 2003 Mercedes G500, 67 corvette and a 1300hp 94 toyota supra. Considering the supra and the vette you dont drive every day, and i cant wheel a company car for the obvious reasons, that leaves the G wagon and the wife would not be amused with scratches, dents and dings from being off road and it just does not ad up to me to wheel a vehicle with a retail still in the $60+K range.

So now that i have had a jeep, ( pos ) and toyota ( totaled) and a growing family it's easier and more practical to send money on something that can take all of us. That leaves a 4runner, land cruiser, land rover, Hummer ( H1) that are worth modifying to take on serious trails. 4 runners don?t have a lot of options in parts and they have no power not to mention they hold there value pretty well, The same is true with the land cruiser, granted some companies are now making parts for them but the price of the vehicle is still high. A hummer h1 is a good 4x4 but for winter use you will freeze unless you buy a 97.5 with duel heat, that puts back in the $40K neighborhood and they dont fit on any of the trails where i live, So lets see that brings us to the rovers, I want / love the D90 but they are a lot of cash and not the best to have young kids in and there is not such a thing as a cheap D90. Now that we are up to the Disco you can find a use 98-99 disco in the $4-8K range, then send $2k on a lift, $1K on tires and wheels, $1-2K on gears and lockers and be able to go just about any place you want for about $15K bucks..

so let me get this straight,
there's no aftermarket for 4Runners?
and
you can afford all those other cars including a G and you can't buy a used Defender?

Only question I have is if someone is building the HD axles, why not machine different bolt patterns into the flanges. Honestly when redoing the inners of the axles I'd love to be able to have a Jeep or Toyota bolt pattern. Give me a lot more choices when it comes to rims and worse comes to worse I could steal a spare off someone I was wheeling with.

Nope, I really dont. New to Rover game, not the 4x4 game but through my browsing have found a lack of variety of rims w/o custom building to get the backspacing but then they're at least $75. Put black steelies on my last trail rig for $35 a piece and had a wide variety of backspacing and sizing. Basically am still doing lots of browsing and watching debates like this trying to plot my steps to having it fully built by the end of next summer.
Upon reading my first one I mis-spoke. When rebuilding the axles to the HD specs, I want new hubs matching the rims I want to use already in the shop instead of having them go to waste and having to spend on new ones.

No either i left out some words or you didnt understand what i saying.

Yes there are aftermarket parts for the 4 runner, but i have never seen any companys that make suspension products that work on a runner as well as the systems made for the discos. Also when you build say a 98 runner and 98 disco the rover will be a lot cheaper and should me more capiable.

On the D90 yes i could buy one and fix it up but that comes back to the "i dont want to spend that kind of money on a toy, snow rig" also i have discussed with other d90 owners that they are not verry safe for small kids to be strapped into. With that being said I could get a D90 (just for example ill take the cheapest on auto trader) $17K for the D90 then what $5-10K do a lift, gears, lockers, all the skid plates bumper and winch. That puts at $27K bucks for winter ride, when you can build a diso a lot cheaper and go just about as many places.

Any off my post back to the topic.

It wouldn't be the first time I'd shipped a vehicle ;) , nor would it be the first time I'd bought a vehicle overseas and shipped it home.

Those are the easy tasks, fixing enough Rovers to afford to go is another story.

& its not like I'll offer FREE maintenance to all those that "come on down" as well

Doesn't owning/driving a 90 mean being cold wet and deaf?

Get a SW, Brownbread, the water ingress manual, and a drop curtain. No disco, but....

Hey Paul, did you get my e-mail? Want to hook up to the RovaCom lite sooner rather than later....
