D1 and DII roofs are the same except length...I have had my SD rack on both my D1 and DII and it fits exactly the same on both
Yes, I know it will fit.
However, if you want it to look right; centering the rear upper window, vertical tubes lining up with the body panels, etc, having the right model as a fitting dummy is important.

Someone's selling Disco racks for $700?

sure, used SD racks go for about that.

The problem is that you have a whole market out here with trucks worth around $3-9K. A $1,200 rack is therefore a pretty pricey item. Of course you have to charge around $1200 to cover cost of materials and labor. Then there's the real killer, the shipping, both from a practical and a cost standpoint. This is why we've seen so many people enter into the rack business with a flourish and then fade away.

Your work looks very good, maybe just needs a few minor tweaks. If you've got a good local audience then you should be able to sell a few.

effective ?

that is yet to be seen.

I am not a fan of no front on the basket.

I assumed it was for a tent, looks like I was right.

sunroofs are a bad idea on a Land Rover. sunroofs with a full-length roof rack is nonsensical.

I kinda thought the same thing. If I'm going to have a rack on top, why worry about the sunroofs opening? You can't see out them or anything, and I'm sure wind turbulence would be terrible with them open.

People were happy to buy SD racks for $1200 and Hanibals for $1400, don't see why this rack needs be priced to compete with a used rack. It comes freshly powdercoated, vs flakey 10 year old SD powdercoating, and you can just order one, you don't have to wait around for someone to get tired of theirs and sell it, then hope that guy is willing to ship.

Of the failed rack companies I can't remember price being the issue, lack of decent customer service always was. KVT, stealing money then falling off the face of the eartch doesn't get much repeat buisiness. NWP, customers don't like to be pay upfront, be told to expect it in 3 weeks and get it in 4 months. I think Marc Olvaries used to make a half rack, but he just got out of the game rather than fading away. MoFab makes a half rack, but they don't publicise it, so they never flourished in the first place.

There are lots of things I'd change about the Roxtar rack, but if it floats your boat the design doesn't look bad, just wouldn't fit my needs.

I think it's a good looking rack that from the pics look well built.

Good luck with the fab shop brother and keep up the good work.

I would add a front lip as well for load but eh.... still a good looking rack.

You should of mentioned last weekend about the rack and we could have examined it closely.

Did all the snow melt off of your truck yet?

Very very nice work.It is some of the best i have seen is a while. On a side note .I was just on your web site and noticed your rear bumper. Can or will that rear bumper fit a RRC.I have been looking for one like your for a while and havent been able to find anything i like.If your rear bumper would fit my RRC i would be ordering on tomorrow.I dont need it power coated because i would have it galvanised.Hell i just might order one for my better halfs D1 anyways. If it will fit my RRC make me a deal on two of them lol

there is a lot I like and a lot I don't like. I think you need to add a little something to the side to break it up. there is a lot of side wall there. this is going to take a while to type I might as well just edit the picture.

To appeal to the folks who would like a lip up front why not make a bolt-on attachment ... something that could be sold as either an accessory or as part of the rack and could quickly be removed for RTT usage?

ok here is a simple change that i think makes it look a little better.

also , I think you needs to extend the front toward the hood a bit more and hand the lights under the floor, pendant style, and eliminate the bar right above the windshield. (it looks hideous)

I would also slam this rack down to 1" above the roof and its proportions would look sooooo much better. that wide side thing i dont like would be minimised. and the rack would be much more functional. sure you have to remove the roof bars and cnt open the sunroof, but oh well.

Something is missing. Have not put my finger on it, yet, but something is making it look cheap.

I'm not a fan of the flooring, either. Improvment, sure. But I'm not digging it. Maybe if it were black.

Still, something is just not right.

well I was trying to be nice...but I think it looks cheesy as well.

having dragged my SD against hundreds of trees I think it looks like it will break as well.

90* welded tube joints are actually very weak compared to bent tubing.
