So I am going to replacing the plugs and wires on my 03 D2 in the next week or so and I was just wondering if there is anything else I should do (maintenance-wise) while I have the intake off? The truck has 184km (114k miles) and the wires look white and dried up and I get the occassional #4 misfire on start up so thats why I am doing the plugs and wires. Everything else seems to be in good shape and the motor runs great other than the occassional misfire code. Any suggestions on anything else I should replace while I am in there would be great.

Also, is there any kind of write-up/online manual for the wire replacment? Just wondering exactly what needs to come off the intake to get to the wires.

Thanks.

Much easier to get the at the coil pack if the upper manifold is off, but a PITA to do!

We got a set of STI plug leads through Paul Schram a couple of years ago while we were in Indiana, and we run Champion 7318 double-platinum plugs.

Advance Auto have them on sale:

We just picked up three sets for our two Discoveries. Even with postage to the UK they were pretty cheap.

Awesome, I am stoked I dont have to take the intake off, I was only going to do so because my Indy thought it was necessary. Thanks for the advice guys, I am hoping to get to this job this weekend provided the weather co-operates.

Rear right will be a pia bit aside of that not bad. Did mine 2 months ago with sti wires and at 6,3" 235 lbs I managed to climb around the the sides a bit to do it. I took the 4 bolts holding the hood on off and removed the hood so i could get a bit better access to the pack.

I wouldn't take the advice that you "don't need to take the intake off" that seriously... Unless you're a surgeon and are used to working with arthroscopic tools..

it's gonna be a major PITA, and you'll regret it..

I've done it, and it is a PITA. I just wanted to let him know that it's possible to do. There's plenty of people that have gone that route, so it's obviously do-able. However, taking off the intake isn't that bad of a procedure. It's a more removing and less cursing, but it's not absolutely necessary.

We have done this on our 2003 Discovery and I would not even try to remove the wires without removing the upper manifold. One vendor of the Magna-core wires would not warranty the wires if there was not a sale of the upper manifold gasket with the wires. To many returns with the coil end pulled out.

Would recommend a review of this web site with pictures. The owner captures the process pretty well with pointers to watch for when reassembling.

We used a crows foot for the SAI tube (on the block) and a adjustable wrench on the SAI nut.

Spray the SAI nuts liberally with liquid wrench.

Not meaning to thread hi jack, but i want to do the same thing. I would like to know if the Kingsbourne wires would be a direct fit for a RHD D2 v8. My other option is Magnecore wires, which i hear are good but are way too pricey.
