Any ideas where how to add recovery points to the front of a 1992 Range Rover Classic - with stock bumber and factory brush guard. I have not been able to to find any clear answers to this - Any help - pics of installation appreciated - thanks

Jate rings are your only option although you will probably have to remove the brush guard to make them fit. Cant remember. I had them on the front of my RRC and they are pretty tough. I would prefer two of them though so you can loop them for strength.

I put a DAP jate ring on my '91 with factory brush guard. It fits on the passenger side, on the frame, a little back from the front. The place it fits is right behind the little metal loop used to lash the vehicle to the boat when it was shipped over.

There are holes on both sides of the front frame ends that you can attach jate rings into as well.

You can get jate rings in standard and wide versions to fit over brush guards, etc.

What ever you do, do NOT use the frame welded shipping loops as recovery points. They are not strong enough (I know, I had them break).

Bringing this post back from the dead......

So I can go to say ExpeditionExchange and get the wide Jate rings and they'll slide over the stock brush guard and bolt through the frame? Does anyone have a pic of this installed? Also doesn't the brush guard get in the way of the rings?

Jate rings will function with the brush guard. Here's another option from the discovery forum:

Hi fellas - uplifting an old thread.

Have a gander at these: www.4x4intelligence.com.au/recovery_points.htm

I just got a set. You get 2 points (the plates) and 4 high tensile bolts, so you have a recovery point each side. They are rated at 10,000 pounds. You use an equilizing strap between the two points for a snatch from deep sand or mud for example.

The 2 plates with bolts weight about 3kg and are massively big - look much more impressive the flesh than the photos.

$95 Australian for the lot.

So $61usd plus shipping.

Those arent bad, but what options short of an HD bumper iare there if you have a steering damper bracket occupying those holes?

The Aussie brackets seem to use the bumper brackets, not the same holes the jate ring uses. I believe the jate ring only mounts on the passenger side, as there's a steering box on the other side.

JATE rings will mount on both sides. I don't have a close up but you can see both of mine in this shot...

I have a GDE front bumper and have a Disco recovery loop mounted under the bumper.

Has anyone ever put a Dixon-Bate on the GDE bumper? I'm not sure if the aluminum is strong enough.

Your's look like they are bolted to where my stock brush guard bolts through. I still don't know if EE's wide jate rings would fit over the brush guard and if they would be functional with the brush guard on. Even then they are $95 each. At that point I might be better off taking that $200 and putting it with the $ I could get for a good factory brush guard, bumper, spoiler with fog lights, and end caps and putting it toward an ARB or RTE.

EE's would fit around your brush guard. I did the same thing on my old D1 I use to own. Now where to spend the $200, that's a whole different story...

$95 for a JATE ring? Buy the Dixon Bate instead. Better recovery point and cheaper than $95.

I have two of them on my stock Series bumper with backing plates and they work well. If the RRC ever becomes more than a road warrior I will buy two more for the ARB bumper on that.

$26 for the jate ring from DAP - worked well for me until I got a bumper with two recovery points. Had to use mine for 7 1/2 hours straight while being strapped/winched off a mountainside with a dead fuel pump. Gets tricky being recovered at certain angles only being on pone side (passenger), so if you can get one on both sides, I'd recommend it...

I'm going to see one of the maintenance guys at work to see about fabbing up something similar to the 4x4intelligence recovery points. The difference being I want the shackle mount to sit under the bottom of the factory brush guard's vertical bumper.

What spec bolts should I use and who would be a good source?

you could always take the frame mounted loops of the rear of vehicle & remount to frame(same as brush guard) just make sure to replace bolts with longer h d versions! will post pics later.:victory:
cheers,pete b

If you're talking about the factory tie down loops, that's a bad idea. they're easily bent and not strong enough to pull your truck out of trouble.
