Anyone have any suggestions on an aftermarket rear bumper for 2004 Disco? Something that might give my rear quarter panels a little more protection perhaps. Yes there is a rock in West Virginia with Tangiers Orange paint on it  - maybe I should have just gone back the other way so I could have matching dents. Like to have a class three receiver hitch on it.

Thank you for your help.

I am in the same boat as you. I have an '04 DII that I nailed the rear quarter on at 5000 miles :D You might look into Greg Davis' bumper. That is the best one I have found so far. Looks to have good departure angle, good quarter protection and a Class III reciever.

wow, that must be a really recent update. i looked into the trek rear bumper for my d1 but didn't go for it because it didn't offer rear quarter pannel protection. I'll have to look again. thanks for pointing that out

Cheers

Thanks.

The EE bumper might get it. I'm wondering if that steel is attached to anything near the wheel well?

Basically, my plastic trim piece is perfectly bent under - doesn't look too bad. I have 3100 miles.

Where do I find info on the Greg Davis? I will do an internet search in a few minutes.

There were about 20 of us LRs on the trail, I'd say 60% had damage at end of day. Good day for the local body shop!

With the trek, you keep your stock hitch if you want to tow so not much of an improvement.

With SG you only get a class II receiver for the DII so not as much towing capacity. You can also keep your stock hitch instead.

I've also been looking at the Aedofab rear bumper. http://www.aedofab.com/
The only problem I see with this one is that the quarter panel protection doesn't go all the way to the wheel well.

I think the Greg Davis bumper is the way to go but I'm still looking at options for my '03 DII.

Greg Davis bumper looks great. I like the idea of the quarter panel trimming. The trek is easy, looks good and better than stock.

Thanks for pics of Davis bumper - did not find them on internet search.

Appreciate the advice.

I am waiting for the Trek Outfitters new Extreme rear bumper. It will have better clearance for when your rear wheel comes off a rock. No pictures are available yet for the bumper, but it will be very similar to the current one and built very well.

In regards to a class 3 hitch built in, I would be careful unless you are planning on adding some additional support to the mounting of the bumper. I have not seen any bumpers out there where the hitch is integrated and able to pull a boat, trailer, etc. If anything at all the integrated hitch could be used for recovery. I still would recommend the JATE rings or a stock receiver.

Food for thought.

I stand corrected. The Aedofab sounds as though it is mounted to the frame like the stock receiver.

The TREK Extreme bumper is still in the works. I have the final fitting on Saturday then it will head to the powder coaters. I will post pics when it is installed.

This is what Mike Aedo emailed me back when I asked him about the Aedofab rear bumper in case anyone's interested.

"The hitch is stronger than the stock hitch. It has a square tube frame behind the
bumper like a bolt on hitch for a pickup. then the bumper is built around that, which boxes the hitch even further. You would probably tear the truck in half before the hitch would give."

Yea, Steve has a finished product now. I saw it, looks very clean. Nice protection for the rear side panels, and I like the way it ties into the fender mounts for strength.

The bumper I made for my truck held a trailer with a jeep on it no problem at all, not one bit of flex. Its bolted in in 4 spots where the old bumper bolted in, and its got brackets on the bottom that bolt it into the stock upper hitch mounting holes in the frame, and then its also got 2 mounting points in the upper fenderwells. Its bombproof, just ask the jetta it ate a few weeks ago. Also, I got a new exhaust pipe made that tucks it almost entirely up into the body, no more redneck pipe out the end.
