Radio searches , No tunes

I can pull engines, remove heads with my eyes closed ,change 3rds with any issues but when it comes to little electric issues I run.
The previous owner had a after market radio placed but not wired, all original connection were there.
I'm a big fan of the weather band on the original radio and since I live in the midwest I like to stay intune with the weather.
I bought a radio and hooked it all up , did the code, channels are there and it searches but I get no sound. It acts like the antenna is not picking up any channels.Fuses are good . Where next boys and girls?
