Possible VSS issue?

My 96 D1 is starting to have trouble maintaining idle (70% of the time) and at times will stall unless my foot is on the gas pedal. When I start the car, it hesitates at first before idling steadily. Also I am noticing more vibrations than normal while it is making up it's mind if it will stall, or maintain a constant idle.
I have heard this could be the VSS about to crap out. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance for any insight :)

it doesn't look like VSS. Typically, VSS issues appear as apparent momentary loss of power on the highway. I don't know if VSS' signal is used for anything at idle by GEMS.

Valhalla I am coming home!
sounds more like the IAC (idle air control) AKA bypass valve. There's info on it in the tech section of this board. do a search on the forums for either of the above terms and you'll find a wealth of information. Also, someone on the RRC board posted recently about success with a NAPA replacement part that was only $31 instead of $$$ at the dealer.

stumbling in cruise
i started looking at all the big shit.cleaned stepper, fuel pressure, ect ect.

turned out to be water in the gas.
