When ever I use my AC or I'm standing in still traffic, my truck runs hot.

I've checked fans, flushed coolent system, cleaned the radiator, changed the thermastat last year, only then I haven't done is replaced the water pump  . Has anyone had these problems and just couldn't fix it. It is too hot in Louisiana not to have AC.

Thanks Alon

There's an older post..

...from April that goes through this topic with some good feedback. Do a search on "air bubble" and it will bring up two posts. The second one is about over heating. If I could remember how to link it for you, I would..

Cleaned radiator, hmmm how about the AC condensor in front of the radiator, clean that too?
Did you have your radiator rodded?
Sure the sender unit is not the issue?
If yes to these, and no air in the system and you are damn sure that thermostat is working, and all other items you said were checked are truly solid, then my take, water pump, seems like a logical progression.
Do yourself a favor and flow test for the water pump before you decide to tear into it.

Thermostat, I placed a brand-new one in and found it was defective out of the box.
Since it is so hot in La, do another check, pull the thermostat, reattach and run the truck and watch the needle. Should not cuase an issue since ambient temps are high enough in the day during summer, but I cannot be dead sure on this. At worst, if your rig runs rough until warm-up, then it will take a little longer to warm-up with the thermo-out.

Good luck.

What oil are you using?

I have a couple of buddies that switch from 10w/30 to 10w/40 in the summer and they say the car runns a little cooler because of it. Both of these guys live in Utah and have D90's. I don't know if this helps but it might be worth a try. When he would run the 10w/30 and have to drive on the freeway in 95 degree weather his defender would overheat if traffic stopped or slowed way down. He said by switching to 10w/40 it helped him out quite a bit. It might be worth a try cheaper and easier than the waterpump.

I cleaned out the condesor, and the radiator was rodded last year and when I took it out yesterday, it was spotless. Im not sure about this sender unit. Could you explain what this is or point me to link that could explain? I sure hope it is not the water pump, I can't afford a new pump because of the steering box getting replaced. I'll check the thermostat again and hope it is that simple, but this truck has done this since I got it in 2000.

Peter-man99, I do use 10w-40, but thanks for the suggestion and thank you to everyone else, this is just getting frustrating.

Well.. Could be time to swap out viscous coupling of engine fan. Seeing that you overheating in slow motion - that would be normally job for engine driven fan to help air to move.
