Anyone do any wild boar hunting? Might be heading down to SC next week. What does everyone shoot with? Im taking a auto browning 12ga, glock 23 .40, ruger .357 mag SA. I would really like to shoot one with my hand gun but i dont know if i can get that close? What do you all think?

I went on a boar hunt in Tenn about 20years ago. I used a 30-30. Are you going to a "game perserve" advertised in the outdoor magazines?

My preference: Bow with a cutter arrow. Don't use an expander or a chisel point. Also, I'd recommend a tree stand. Those things get upset. Seriously, if regulations allow, on most of our hunts in TN or NC we take the pigs inside 40 yards, relatively easy for a handgun.

Dontneed any of that. The bay hounds run him down and tie himup. The bull dogs grab his ears and imobilize him and then you jsut stick him with a knife (Ever wonder where the term pig sticker came from?)

At 400 lbs I'd rather take him with one .270 round between the eyes at 150 yards

On pigs, I think the more gun the better. If you can handle a .44 Magnum or a .454 Casull then have at it. Same with rifles.

And remember: good shot placement will make up for less power...to a point.

150 yds out... awe man whats the sport in that.

about twleve years ago i bought a stainless steel Ruger Redhawk .44 mag with a scope. in my younger days i had dreams of taking that Bear hunting in alaska and boar hunting in here in CA....

still have the ol hand cannon... but unfortuantely its only been out to shoot paper targets, cans, bottles filled with water and other non living items :(

i recently brought that idea back up and the wife replied, "think again if your gonna go risk your neck shooting a bear at <40yrds, cause if it doesnt kill you, i will" :D haahahaha
