Back to the thread Dmitry.....

I am looking at buying a couple right now for all my camping gear. I want something relatively light so I can pack it tight and get away with 3 or socontainers of all my camping gear...like others my concern is wehn you get into sizable Pelicans they are heavy.

Walter (Rovercanus) had some nice ones, but the lip on the lid didnt go over the top of the box, it sat on top so it may leak in weather...something I would like to avoid...but they were awesome, with wheels and quite inexpensive.

I wonder what else is out there??????? Other than Pelican???

BTW - i have been stalking the gov liquidator sites for some used Armed Forces ones...

I ll take a look at materialsI have from the distributor, but looking over those guys' prices, some models can be had cheaper online somewhere else. I ll see if I dig up any better prices in the next few days. Let me know if you find a specific model you might like. I know at least their storm cases are supposed to be watertight.

I use Pelican 1520 and 1550 cases as panniers on my motorcycle for adventure travel. They're great.
Ebay is a good source for them for cheap.

I have a 1300 and 1400 for camera equipment. That's it.

I don't see the point in using Pelican cases unless the items in them are:

A)Fragile

and

B)Worth at least several times what the Pelican case is worth OR are mission-critical.

My tools are waterproof and unbreakable. They go in a bag.

Hardigg ( almost priced identically )

Google is your friend for good prices

For camping gear you do not need the foam and that would save you some pesos..

The ones from the Gov Auctions, are super cheap ( OD ) but you end up buying a lot, and that could mean several cases

I wonder if you fuck up a river crossing when it is really cold and all your clothing gets wet , you will have the same opinion

In all fairness, people existed before Pelican cases.

A bag from West Marine kept my clothes dry when it was tossed from FLIP to a whaler and missed its target.

I have one of those also, its the im2300 I think...about the same size as the 1550. Honestly, I like them a little bit better. The latches are easier. I use this or a 1550 to carry stuff out on the boat that doesn't need to get wet.

Exactly. If bags work on a 1 week whitewater canoe camping trip, I'm sure they're fine in a truck.

Don't get me wrong, I like Pelican cases. I just think they're over-used.

The best I have seen is an all-plastic deadblow hammer in a Pelican case. I bet the hammer is more indestructible than the case. Not even any metal to rust or wood to rot.

none of your fucking business
Underwater Kinetics...I won one of their smaller cases with a flashlight at a raffle.

I kept cigars in it.

Then some asshole in an LR3 stole it to keep his camping lube free of debris.

How many of you guys use them? Any specific applications you use them for primarily? Particular models you own or would like to own?

use them.

apps range from filling 2-1650s with Purina dry dog chow bags when moving to Brasil and checking them as luggage to carrying my GPS in a 1050 on business trips for the rental.

also have the smaller cases that I've used for keeping all the travel documents in one spot during the Atacama trip.

basically have a flock of the birds.

and yes I agree with Rugbier - I always know whatever is in there is dry when I open it and as most of the flock is usually on the roof, that counts.

see pic to the left.

If you screw up a river crossing in your truck to the point where stuff on your roof or stuff stowed inside your truck gets wet then your clothing is the least of your worries. At that point you'll wish your entire engine was inside a Pelican case.

Yet I'm constantly told that I'm being anal to fix all the rust holes in my truck before wheeling.

In the world I live in, it has not been unusual to have to open the doors to let the mud run out of the truck...

I have multiple Pelican cases of all manner of sizes for all manner of uses.

I do want one to use as toolbox and luggage for the unlikely even that I ever fly again-other than to visit Elias in November.

Not so sure I agree, I mean the truck is replaceable my frozen ass not

But hey, not pushing the Pelicans, I just like all my shit in the Pelicans, when I get to a spot all I do is throw them out of the truck and I find everything I need very quick and I know is very dry.
