Panhard question

SO! I had pepboys put an allmakes 4x4 replacement bushing in my panhard. I know that was probably my first mistake. I have an RTE adjustable panhard with about 4" lift through rte 2" and 1" spacers.

The bushing died for good the other night when I was on the highway. Coming off the highway I had the worst wobble I have ever felt. So I pulled over and realized what it was after shaking the panhard rod. So I torqued it down good and when I got home and went to put my stock panhard on and the bracket appeared to be bent near the bolt hole. I bent it probably 1/8" so I could get the axle bolt in. I also used a tie down strap on one side to pull it down. Once I got that on I realized the frame side wasnt going to fit because the rod was tilted forward. So I'm guessing its either radius arm bushings are shot and I havent noticed it, pinion angle/axle is sitting too far forward or my worst nightmare the backet is fucked.

I know I can use the RTE once I get the new bushings but I'd like to get some feedback on this... I'm going to see if I can get the axle to move forward and backward once I get the new bushings in.

Any way to test if the bracket is screwed up in the mean time? I mean I doubt it's possible because the bolts go thru it fine.

Justin, I also read it a couple times and can't figure it out.

If you have 4" of lift and stock radius arms, the axle is going to be leaning forward making it hard to get the panhard bolts in with the stock unit. I have never seen that frame mount bend, but I suppose anything is possible.

Yea kinda hard to explain and I suck at explaining on top of it all. Guess my questions are 1. Do you think bad radius arm bushing are making the axle tilt even more? and 2. Would this cause pan hard rod bushing to die prematurely or was it just a faulty bushing? 3. Any other causes for these bushings to wear quickly?

Wondering if im going to have same issue again. I also think it's unlikely the bracks bent especially if bolt fits. Once I get a panhard in I will test radius bushings...

Where to get plain old stock pan hard rod bushings and who has the best price and how hard is the install?

Do a search and you will find all this info. I'm going with poly bushings from Justin at lucky8llc.com - they are easier to fit and change than the oem ones but they dont last as long..

I am going to try these polys first figure a pair should last me a while. I have a whole crap load of the all makes ones that didnt prove to be the best. It may have been the install though. Once I become a big baller and buy a press I'll be in a better place.

I did one set on a press and one set with a hammer and socket, to be honest it was easier to do it with the hammer and socket. This was on radius arms.

I took my 3lb and chisel to my panhard bushing and only bent the shit out of the bushing and it didnt come out the other side at all.. Tried the socket. didnt budge. I'm giving up and taking it somewhere that has a press.

I broke the frame mount panhard bracket here in New Orleans from the rough roads. It is very possible.

lol rough roads in New Orleans? I drove this thing around NYC for a while. Was yours bent forward and backward? I think it's still just the pinion/axel angle.

If I were you I'd make a panhard rod with a heim joint on either end. If your going to run that much lift with stock arms you'll never find a bushing that will last long especially a poly bush. Mcmaster Carr carries a greaseable heim that I've used with great success for such applications.
