P0447 Evap Emission code???

I have been getting a P0447 code for a few months now (evaporative emission control system vent control circuit open) and local shops seem clueless. In doing some research here and reading a very detailed post by Chris in St Lois I am leaning towards the problem stemming from a problem with my CVS valve (canister vent solenoid). I am about to plunk down about $100.00 for a part that I am GUESSING will fix my problem. Anybody been through this or have any words of wisdom that may help on this??

Might be in the same boat, I've been having an EVAP leak which grew to 'large' dispite the common swap of the gas cap, and all local guys are miffed by it... keep posted as to if it worked out.

Good Luck! :patriot:

Call me cheap, but I have really been holding out waiting to get an answer before I start "throwing parts at it". An educated throw, but still...throwing parts.

If I proceed, I will keep you posted.

All I can tell you is that the EVAP canister vents to the intake when signalled to do so by the ECU at particular times under particular conditions of engine speed/load/throttle/temp/etc etc.....for a particular lenght of time etc......if you're getting codes for it not working then it's got to be either the ECU or the electronic vent device on top of the canister (or its electrical connections?????) being no good.

SUCCESS! :bigok:

After having this check engine light on for about a year now and all local guys being clueless as to what was causing it - success.

Picked up a cheap CVS valve at Rover cannibal while I was in OKC seeing family and that blasted light is finally off!

This is all due to a lengthy post I read by Chris in St Louis.

I put the new one, along with the canister, a couple of years back. The (0441) code went away, just to come back with the vengeance. All the tests come clean....

I think I am having the same issue did the code p0447 ever come back.
I got p0446 same family code for same faults.
Thanks,
Dave

There's a procedure (think it's in the Chris St-Louis tech) about how to test for the EVAP purge valve...

Don't recall off the top of my head, but something like while at idle, pull the intake side of the valve off and try to blow through it. If no go - then the purge valve is good, trace lines and find the crack/loose assembly.

If you can blow through it, then the purge valve is stuck - RIR it (read: call Will Tillery).

Good Luck!
