I just replaced a pre-cat 02 sensor with a bosch from Napa. $68.00, and it had the proper harness, so there was no splicing.

What part #?

Nathan's in business. I just e-mailed him yesterday re: 02 Sensors, he got right back to me this morning. Mine all have 222k on them, so I'm doing all 4, his quote was $398.00 + $8.50 shipping, works out to $99.50 each.

I need to change my front O2 sensors also , and would like to know what to expect beside ''no more codes'' :) Anyone noticed power increase or better m.p.g. Changed my rear ones last spring, and was told that the front ones are the most important ones. My check engine light came on, I took my front sensors off and cleaned them with brake cleaner, erased the codes and after 3 days the light hasn't come on yet. But I already ordered the sensors and will be putting them on sometime this week. Just wondering what to expect...

Thanks,

Has anyone found a universal fit O2 sensor for 97-99 D1s with AEL?

So Sven, I guess no one has answered your question yet. Have you since learned anything? I have only had to replace the O2's on my RRC and will be interested to nail down this info for my 99 D1. I know my day is coming. All four would be the cross-over for AMR 6244 and has 4 wires. The next question to nail this down is what is the thread size that makes it unique?

If you are changing O2 sensors on a D1, you need to determine if you have the early model sensors or the (somewhere around 1997) Advanced Evaporate Loss (AEL) system. The AEL vehicles can be recognised by the rectangular-shaped emission (charcoal?) canister on the passenger side of the engine compartment.

The sensors are different for the AEL models, I think AMR6244 is the factory number (what Dave said above...). All 4 sensors use the same part.

No still havent figured it out yet. If someone can figure out the thread size, we should be able to figure out which bosch universal would fit.

I may have it....

We need someone (Will Tillery?) to compare an O2 from a 97-99 D1 (w/AEL) with O2's from a 99-04 DII and/or 99-02 RR. I believe you will find that the only differences are with the wire lengths and the plugs. Actually, the BIG difference is that the O2's for the DII's and RR's are about half the price.

I replaced mine on my D2 with ones from E-BAY - chinese made. They looked good quality, but who knows. They work fine. I changed them myself which is a bit fiddly if you have never done it before and have hands bigger than a chipmunk.

Cheers

I'm replacing my two pre-cat sensors (orginals) as post-cats were replaced before I bought the vehicle. I have a '99 D1 and the cheapest, yet still reliable source I've located is at http://www.mccullochs.com/WalkerOxygenSensors.html. The replacements are not cut and splice universals, but direct replacements for LR #AMR6244 are Walker #250-24512 and cost $89.90 including shipping. When I get them installed next week, I'll post an update. If someone finds an acceptable cut and splice universal for AEL D1's, please post it!
