The thing that surprises me about my local races is that a lot of people on both sides of the isle talk about how we need change, change, change; or, "its all the politician's fault!"; but when they are presented with something as reasonable as state house term limits of 6 years, senate limits of 8 years... they vote it down by 60/40 split!
Good. Term limits are for people too lazy or ill-informed to vote for decent people. If someone can show me how it's a good thing to force out someone who's doing a really good job, even when a majority of voters want the person to stay in, I'll consider it.
I think it's ironic that so many people who claim election finance reform is unconstitutional because it limits speach, are also in favour of term limits. That certainly limits speach too. Even more, IMO.

Where's Ronald Reagan when you need him? He had brains, balls and character, items sorely lacking everyplace in Washington DC you look.
You mean the good character of being in bed with your mistress while your wife is giving birth? Or do you mean the brains that makes you think trees pollute more than cars? I'll grant you he had balls, to do and say such things.

i'm from PA (State College) and my parents still live there, so i've been hearing a little what has been going on. i never liked Santorum and Casey doesn't seem to have much experience, but overall seems to have a level head.
if he is anything like his father he will do just fine i think. certainly a lesser of the two evils.

For the record, what exactly did you not like about Santorum? I mean specifics.

Well I guess with the Dems taking the house it's going to mean that Bush is going to be able to push through his plans to grant millions of illegal immigrants amnesty. I suppose that will be good for the corrupt companies that are hiring illegals in the name of profit.

Funny I always thought that Conservatives would be in favor of upholding the law and ensuring that these illegals were not rewarded for breaking the law. Maybe that's another difference between Conservatives and NeoCons :D

Oh just one thing about the new makeup of Congress.

Yep - I think we'll be hearing that term alot for the next two years. My guess the only thing that is going to be different is that the flood gates are going to be open for millions more illegals.

I think I've come to the conclusion over the years that the best government is one that is deadlocked. That way no one party can totally screw up the country.

Republicans lost because they didn't hold true to their conservative principles.

Democrats won because they ran many bluebloods (conservative democrats)

Lieberman won because he held true to his values and is now an independant.

The Progressive wing (extreme liberal) of the Democrat party took control of the house, not consistent with the views that won them the House.

It will be interesting to watch the struggle for power within all parties. While Pelosi is now Speaker of the House she may not be able to hold her own party as it moves away from her. In the mean time Republicans will begin their move from the center, back to the right and their base.

I don't follow. When have the gates ever been closed?

That's why I put millions more :D Just the fact that another amnesty is going to be on the cards will create a surge of illegal immigration up to the point that this comes into law.

Bet they aren't going to do a damn thing about anchor babies either.

1) voted down FIVE huge education bills
2) voted for ANWR
3) his entire entire environment policy (lack there of)
4) voted against bulk generic prescription drugs (mainly for Medicare)
5) voted against the Guest Worker program
6) voted against raising minimum wage to $7.25

he does a better job than just about anyone out there at sucking the dicks of big pharm. legal drugs are causing a far bigger problem than legal drugs at this point and he's in bed with the biggest pushers of them all.

he also has the religious right on his coat tails. one of the more dangerous groups around in my opinion. just have a look in the news. these people are not only misaligned with reality, but what it even constitutes.

Iraq: "We have a great game plan, and Rumsfeld does fine job." (Sep 2006)

he just needed to go. he had the 'special interests' in his back pocket and that does not serve the best interest of the people.

oh snap i forgot this........."If the Supreme Court says that you have the right to consensual (gay) sex within your home, then you have the right to bigamy, you have the right to polygamy, you have the right to incest, you have the right to adultery. You have the right to anything,"

what an idiot. ^^^

edit. oh wait.......one good thing. he is a Penn State grad! :)

Democrats...meh.
Republicans...meh.

They're all the same and they all suck. It's just a question of who sucks the least in retrospect. You can never know how good or bad a leader is until you look back on what they did.

Clinton was Horrible for letting Monica blow him. Looking back, that was actually kinda cool compared to where we are now.

remember there were more than one Guest Worker programs. one to eventually make them US citizens and one to make them legal and accounted for. he voted against both. Canada has a very similar Guest Worker program that works just fine.

But Canada doesn't have hundreds of thousands of immigrants pouring across it's southern border. Besides there is already a guest worker program - they are called 'work visas' - There are plenty of folks from India over here on H1B's.

The country already has a glut of un-skilled workers - we don't need anymore.

If Canada's guest worker program is so good, how come 30,000 Americans are not fjording the Great Lakes every day to take advantage of it? How come our illegals aren't passing through the States just to get to the Great White North?
