I've been running a modified X-brake setup on my disco., It works way better than the stock drum ever did. WIth the park brake set, the vehicle WILL NOT MOVE. period.

I appreciate the time and effort, but don't see the need for it. Hell, I don't see the need for a parking brake 99% of the time.
I didn't see a need for one, either, until the goddamn thing slipped from park and pinned me to the wall. Not bad, but embarrassing - the slope was just steep enough so I couldn't push the turd away from me.

I second Kevin. If you could adapt one for a Series tranny, I'd be interested too. Especially with the v8 going in. But I am also interested in one for the Disco. I've got to pull my tranny shortly to install a new tranny, as well as a LT230 t-case. Would rather do it all at once. Do you have any idea when testing will be complete?

Hey. I'll put my 2¢ in here since I have an X-Brake and my conversation with Dom about it was probably part of the impetus for him to make his version. I'd have considered trying his out but couldn't wait as I was sick of having no parking brake.

I've always found the drum brake to be pretty much useless. On my Discovery I never really trusted it so always left it in gear as well (5spd) and on the 110 I could honestly not really tell if it was pulled or not. Actually I drove probably 50km with the brake applied and cooked it, and decided that for the money it just wasn't worth putting another drum on.

I ordered the X-Brake from Simon (www.x-eng.co.uk) in the UK and have it fitted on my 110 now. I can confidently say that the disc brake design is WORLDS AND WORLDS AND WORLDS better than the stock drum system. If I try to take off in 1st gear with the X-Brake applied I will stall my 200tdi. Try that with the drum brake.

My only complaint with it was that I got a small ringing noise from the pads brushing the disc at first. Maybe I just didn't adjust it properly. Maybe Dom's floating design will eliminate that.

Also, if you look at the X-Brake it has a skid plate under the disc to protect it from being dinged if you do high centre your truck somehow. I should also mention that i picked up an X-Charge split charge relay system from x-eng at the same time and I'm very happy with that too.

All that having been said, if you're replacing your parking brake anyway, I *****HIGHLY***** recommend replacing it with a disc brake. It's probably not THAT much more than buying a new drum anyway (I didn't price the drum). If Dom gets his to market it's worth consideration too since it ships from North America, although I had no problem getting mine from the UK.

In short, I fully endorse the X-Brake, and I also fully endorse Dom as a nice guy and I imagine his product will be great too.

Scorpion's was stolen from the X-brake guy.

I'll second that. I don't imagine I'll ever buy a thing from Scorpion now (not that I probably would have anyway) after learning about the stunt they pulled with the X-Brake.
