Oil Pressure Switch

Have I guess correctly as to how the oil pressure switch works? The switch creates a ground when the vehicle is switched on and once the engine is started and oil pressure builds, the ground connection is broken and the warning light goes off.

Yup...that's it.

There may be two oil presure senders on your vehicle - in close proximity. The small one is wired to the familiar, green "idiot light". The other is for the electric oil pressure gauge. With but one wire, ithe gauge functions like an ohm meter, in that it measures how much 'lectricity is leaking back to ground through the sender.
