Folks I am hardley mechanical and am just starting to do my own work and the most basic thing has seemed to stump me.

I can not get the drain plug to budge on my DII. I am using a 15mm socket with a ratchet and for the life of me cant move it.

It has always been serviced by a shop so I am wondering if they just put it on too tighly.

Any advice for the newbie would be appreciated.

Thanks!!

Make sure you are turning it the right way. It should come off.

This will teach you to not take your Rover to the stealership:nono:

leverage is yor friend. A breaker bar or a pipe inserted in your ratchet handle to extend the mechanical arm will help break it loose, just don't get too crazy with it and strip the bolt head.
also, lefty-loosy righty-tighty:)

use the right tool
some 12 pt sockets will slip right off with alotta torque on a oily bolt
be sure to use a 6pt or better yet a box wrench

also, the stealership used a lift and the tech was standing

are ya laying on your back? that could be it too

That one shouldn't stick too bad. Hit it with a shot of PB blaster or sea foam deep creep, both available at parts stores. Then put your feet on a tire or something and pull it, don't push it. Make sure you are turning it counter clockwise.

Use a six point, not a 12. 12 points are simply for tight spaces when you already have the bolt loose, six points are more proper for breaking them free. If you haven't done so already, get a replacement washer for it, don't reuse the one you have.

This one should be rather easy if you do it right.

Cheers,
