Oil light on intermittently...

Hi all -

Yesterday AM the oil warning light came on intermittently then on steady for about 1 mile...outside temp about 60...I topped off the oil as it was 1/2 quart down then the light went off...OK for the next 25 miles...

Last night the same thing happened but turning the vehicle off and on caused it to go out...though it would occasionally flicker...

This morning it stayed off but I only have driven about 5 miles...

There was NO CHANGE in engine noise or feel - the oil pump and screen were changed about 25K ago, and prior to that I was getting the louder "lifter" noise (and of course it was not driven once I heard that starting)...

So basically I hope the sending unit is going bad - do these have a expected service life?? Difficult to replace??...Any thoughts appreciated...

I'm wishing I had tapped in that oil pressure gauge now...

I had the same problem. Motor was clogged full of sludge. I believe the breather hose got clogged and the rest is hsitory.

Hmm - I'll check that breather hose - it's gotten gunked up before but I never connected the two...

No light for the past 2 days...breather hose clean...

BUT it's got me thinking why that light came on - does anyone have any input on whether the oil sending switch or whatever it is called could be failing??
