Now I've done it.

As if the Disco's weren't challanging enough, I decided I needed a new project. I'm the proud new owner of a 1964 mark 1 mini cooper. It needs a lot of work, but the body is remarkable rust free, and I'm friends with the guy who imported it. I haven't gotten down to LA to pick it up yet, but am really excited and just wanted to share. Anyone else here on the boards fans of classic mini's?

No, an old boss of mine who's name is Eric imports them to race. This one was too nice, so he never got passed installing an internal roll cage. He had 8, and was going through a divorce, so he sold this one to another friend of mine named Garnet. Garnet has hung onto it for about 5 years, without touching it, it does need an engine, and decided he needed to let it go. Since I'm friends with Eric, he felt good about me getting it, and offered it to me for an increadible price, even with the engine not finished.

I didn't know you had a cooper Marc, got any pics?

Love Mini's, I grew up in those, my Mom, me and two other siblings jammed in there. Over the years we had about 5. My uncle had the sporty 1300cc with the vinyl sunroof.
Sweet cars, they look funny on american roads, when parked next to a suburban.

Nice, I am excited. Finally a british car without all the british electronics. Plus they are just cool and unique. I see rovers around here all the time now. I can't remember the last time I saw a classic mini prowling the streets.

I see an old black/silver one running around SLC a couple a times a month. Usually around sugar house and it looks mint. RHD, don't know the year, but I've given the driver a thumbs up once. Fun looking project vehicles.

Is the old body style refered to 'classic' like the rrc when the p38 came out?

I honestly don't know. I only referred to it as a clasic to distinguish it from the new ones. So my guess is, yes. I'll have to keep an eye out for the black and silver one. I don't know how I'll paint mine yet, I think right now it's white with a red roof, but i haven't seen it in about 7 years.

Nice, thanks, I had found the mini mania web sight, but didn't know about the John Cooper one. I appreciate the link. As for Rover money, well, I am single, so where most of you have to pay for a rover and a wife, I have to pay for a rover and a mini. I think it should put us on a level playing field, in theory that is. :)
