The Ruger is a lot of fun in .223/5.56, but in .308/7.62, that thing barks like a big dog! Short barrel, light action, big round...you do the math.

They make a .308 ruger mini 14? 5.56, 6.8, & 7.62x39 and now .308? Cool!

Sorry...my bad. I've got .308 on the brain - 7.62x51...not 7.62x39, as in the Mini-30. Recently, I've been researching loads for the 7.62 for my bro's rebarreled M1A; in the last year I've just started reloading for my M1 Garand. Been reloading for the Mini-14 for three decades now. As I remember from '89 or so when I fired a friend's Mini-30, it had a pretty big report for pretty small rifle. I prefer the original.

Awesome, welcome to the Mini club! Round here, it takes 3 hours in line just to get to the counter, then a few days for the background check, even for just a rifle -- servers are too busy.

Stainless Mini-30. The only weapon I've ever had to use in an armed confrontation. Sweet rifle.

I've actually had 2 pre ban mini 14s for many years, So I'm not a noob to the mini club. I bout the mini-30 to bridge the gap between my AKs, SKSs, and my HK91. I'll take her out this weekend and see how she does with 7.62x39 and 7.62x51 in the same mag. If there are any blow up pictures, I'll post them.

Ruger actually did develop a Mini-14 in .308 in the early 1980s. It was advertised in various gun mags in '84 and '85, along with another "coming soon" variant in .243. However, it never evolved as far as actual sales to the public, due to "unresolved engineering and production issues" - which I interpret as comin' apart at the seams due to the heavy recoil and increased chamber pressures.

Cheers

Nice. I picked up a mini 14 about a month ago. Then just this week I picked up a M1 carbin from my father.
