I don't know....just not feeling it. Especially at the price point. It does look like it would be fun to toss around on some trails.

20-inch wheels with the Z71 off road package? Negative

5.3L gas V8? Positive

355 HP & 383 lb-ft? Somewhat comparable but less than the GX550's 349 HP and 479 lb-ft.

Mileage quoted at 15 city / 20 highway / 17 combined for the Chevy vs. 15 / 21 / 17 so the same.

You can get the 6.2 as well which would be my choice. But yes it’s pricey and 20” wheels on an off road truck is nuts. I’d actually get the GMC AT4 version as I think it’s better looking inside and out.

The Tahoe/Yukon has gotten far too wide to seriously consider anywhere in the East. The GM small block sounds great until you read into lifter failures they’ve been having on trucks post Covid. FIL has a well optioned 2020 Sierra and it’s been constant problems. GM build quality now is a far cry from the old NBS trucks

Out of curiosity I looked it up. The Tahoe is 2” narrower than the GX550. As for lifter failures, it seems that if they fail it’s usually under the warranty period. I don’t hear of many failing after significant miles.

Damn, you're right. 83" vs 81" (no mirrors). 2013 LR4 is 75.4 no mirrors. I'm going to feel that extra 8". That's what she said.

Booted up GMC and I see the Yukon seems to be the Tahoe equivalent. The AT4 looks pretty good. Damn pricey, all of them for pretty good. The 6.2L motor is another $5k on top of ridiculous. Just not feeling it at all. They have one that starts at $100,750. Who's buying these things? The government (taxpayers)?

Yea it’s crazy but there are people buying 85k Ineos. Chomping at the bit for a 65k Tacoma. And dealers charging 85k for a Land Cruiser. Seems people just don’t care anymore.

I was just talking to a buddy over a beer about the GX. Told him I was ready to drop $75k on a car and my first house was only $140k. Nuts.

Edit: In looking back believe that 83” width figure for the GX550 is with mirrors. Without it appears to be about 79”, approx 4” wider than LR3/4. Still wide but not the pig the Tahoe/Yukon is. Same width as a D5

It's splitting hairs to be honest but their site says "83.22 with mirrors folded in". Tahoe is quoted "81 without mirrors".

Looks like the US Press release erroneously said 83-odd inches. The true width appears to be 1980mm = 77.9 inches. So only 2.55 inches more. She probably won't be impressed but I'll give it the old college try.

The truck felt wider than the LR4 while sitting in the driver's seat. Another thing that makes it Disco-esque is the 2nd row has stadium seating with the seat bases noticeably higher than the front seats.

Here's what I found on the internet regarding vehicle heights:

GX550 Overtrail height 76.2

Land Cruiser height 76.1

LR4 height 72.1

2025 4Runner TRD Pro 70.8

One thing I always noticed about the 4Runner is that it feels like the roof is caving in on you and you sit low down with your legs out in front of you. I had the same roof-caving-in feeling in the older Range Rover Classics after years in a Discovery but at least you are sitting upright and you have a lot of tall glass around you. That extra 5.3" in the Land Cruiser vs. the 4Runner is going to make a big difference in interior feel. That's what she said....bringing it full circle.

Before the $76k Grenadier, the choice of LR4 and 385-kmi Classic pushed us to rent a Suburban or a Tahoe or a Wagoneer on a few recent cross-country trips.
Wagoneer was the oddest of the bunch - with ridiculous gas mileage (22 mpg on a 2800-mile trip), but it earned nobody's love.
Compared to that, everyone loved a Z71 Sub/Tahoe.
The last generation of GM utes has that hideous independent rear suspension - somehow they managed to fuck it up badly compared to just about everyone else.

Curious what you mean by hideous.

I agree it looks odd...whatever they did makes the wheel track look skinny.

I kept seeing Yukons and Tahoes with the AT4 and Z71 packages today. I noticed that funky rear end too. I think I'll breeze by a GM dealership and have a look see inside.

My chosen Lexus dealership has 8 GX550s in-bound with 2 of them being Overtrails. One basic for $70k and one Overtrail + for $83K. Both in white. The white with black everything else is growing on me. Very storm-trooper.

Those new Chebbies are a joke, have you actually looked at the IRS setup. I drove a '21 recently and it

The new IRS is incredibly heinous, those lower control arms are like 6" off the ground. The new GM fullsize SUV are okay to drive, they managed to hide the speedo behind the steering wheel. Driver controls dont make sense, it would take some time to learn. The Duramax seems to be a turd and the lifter/engine failures abound in the V8's. New TLC looks promising but i expect it will take time to work out all the issues with the new drivetrain.

A Sequoia with the big 5.7 or 200 series probably among the best SUVs built in recent time. Old GMs pre AFM would go forever with little to no maintenance, interiors would disintegrate but theyll keep on going.
