Muffler heatshield

I am replacing my exhaust on my D1 and forgot to order a heatshield for the center muffler. Just wondering if this is really necessary..I have no idea when the original fell off, but I assume I've been driving without one for years.

I'd advise putting one up there for heat protection alone. You may not notice it up front but I bet those that might ride in the back seats would notice and appreicate it.

You'll also find that it will rust your floor from the moisture that leaks out.

Thanks for the help...anyone know where I can find one in Denver? I checked and can buy it online but would like to install it today if possible...forgot to order one when I ordered the exhaust!
Would NAPA have one similar?

ptschram....I also know how you know! Fashioned one from .0020 aluminum and painted with engine enamel. Works like a champ.
