I do the ma'am/sir thing all the time that's the way I was raised and the military.

Grits are one of my favorite breakfast foods, wife will have to experience them.

I've got the ya'll's down from three years at FT Stewart years ago.

Sweet tea, is there another way it's supposed to be made?

Another bonus of Maxwell is according to the unit they are moving to Montgomery this coming summer. So the drive will get even shorter. Glad I found that out before I took housing on Benning that would have been one hell of a commute...

yes, alabama has seasons. the summers are very humid, and the winters pretty cold. but nothing like you're used to. it might flurry once a year.

Armyrover,

Don't take michaels serious when he mentions "winters pretty cold".
The locals in Alabama think anything below 70F is "pretty cold" and get their long johns ready as soon as it gets 60F.

I'm from Belgium and moved 18 years ago to N AL and have only seen one decent winter, that was in 1993.
Most winters I might wear a light jacket, and thats it for "winter outfit".

I have two sons living in Auburn, and they can help you with the remaining trails in the area.
You might also consider joining CAOS http://www.caos4x4.com/
And take a look at http://www.off-road.com/offroad/article/articleDetail.jsp?id=286440

well, there is a lot of truth in this. however, it does get down to the 30s quite regularly. i would think that if it's cold enough to freeze water, then it'd be cold enough to be considered cold by anyone's standards.

i don't really consider it cold until it reaches the 40s. fall/winter are among my favorite times of the year.

with all that said fredd, do your sons drive rovers? i'd be interested in meeting more rovers down here. i know all the modded ones already.

No, my oldest son has a 1983 CJ7 and my other son a 1990 full size GMC Jimmy K5.

If you are the one I think, then you have met my oldest son when you came to one of our rides with our TN Rovers club.

When you see a dark grey 1993 RR Classic with "FAL" as numberplate, that's me.
I always try to go once a month to Auburn to visit them.

Best,
fredd

Lows in the 30's  we get in the negatives around here with a bit of regularity.

I'll check those clubs out as I am an equal opportunity wheeler.

I just like getting out and seeing what expensive part I can break next. So what are trails like down there rock, mud, clay, swamp? lol

psh. well it's cold to a southerner! at least this way, everyone will know it's you when your wearing shorts and sleeveless shirts down here in the winter.

get ready for a hotass summer, btw.

no swamp really, but rock, mud and clay are in abundance.

actually, not much mud, considering we've been in a draught for almost the past four years.

I'll be heading north to Huntsville on Tue - Thur for work and returning just in time to load up the family and head south to Monroeville on Fri/Sat for a wedding. If you've got some free time Mon night, let me know and we can grab some dinner and a beer and welcome you to Montgomery! Will your family be coming down for the week as well or just you?

Nope just me the army is paying for the trip so I can assess the training needs of the unit and provide support from where I am currently.

For me this is great since I won't walk in on a 2 year back log of work or something lol

Once my travel arrangements are confirmed and approved I'll let you know Ronnie

No problem, just let me know when you know. I was asking about the family because I have a daughter about the same age (four in January) so we could do a family dinner if they were coming.

well i found some mud for ya. unfortunately a two foot deep hole decided to swallow my truck tonight and leave me high-centered on my axle housings. at least you'll be happy to know that the rovers here are nice enough to leave their homes at 1 am to come pull you out. you'll like it here.:victory:

only 2 foot deep? beginner

I can say rover owners everywhere are generally a really good and helpful lot.

My saab decided to shit out all the repairs done to it last month at the Saab dealer in TX apparently they jerry-rigged it together charged me for the actual repair and last night it came undone.

So I posted up needing to borrow a trailer on my local forum and got a quick response from one of the guys. Well my rover's starter has been acting strange and it completely quit last night. So I pulled it to find the nose cone on the starter had sheered off and was still stuck in the bell housing.

Long story short not only did he loan me the trailer he brought his truck along and towed the old saab to the dealership so they could repair the repairs from the other dealer.

Rover owners are good people 99% of the time.

well, as far as 2' deep water goes, unlike the typical 4WDing college student, i normally steer clear of mud and water whenever possible, but considering that's all we have down here on the plains (literally, no hills) then i have to settle with it. i would've been fine in the mud, considering the ground was hard-packed, it's just that this area is where all those rednecks with huge tires come through tearing up the ground, and i high centered on the ground between their ruts. i came to a grinding halt, and all four tires where off the ground. my buddy's truck was pulled forward while trying to winch me (my truck didn't budge), so a couple pulls with my kenetic energy strap and i finally got out.

i love this community, and i'll return the favor whenever possible. we'll have to go wheeling once you get down here, get everything settled in, and have a weekend off to go bash around on the trail.
