Ok, before I get bashed I just wanted to say I searched, and found some usefull info, unfortunatly it was not for my truck. I have a OEM brush guard for my 96 D1 and didn't know the cutting procedures to install it on my disco. When I searched I found a lot of information on installing and cutting on the D2, but NOT the D1. Is there any tips anyone has, or can explain what you need to cut to get this done?

thanks fellas,

I don't believe there's any cutting involved for the D1. I've never put one on though, mine was on when I bought it. But, I had to adjust and tighten it since and have not noticed anything that was cut.

I have D1 and have a oem brush bar in the garage, I have been told that because of the plastic panels that surrouond the OEM fog lights there is need for cutting. I have been looking for someone who has done this, but have not had any luck. Any help would be most appreciated.

Thanks
Joe

There is a piece in the center of my airdam that unbolts for the grill guard. I'll run out and take a couple pics of the spots after I'm done with my lunch.

After looking at it closer it looks like the guard fits through slots on the airdam (so I don't think it needs to be taken apart) and the black piece of plastic in the middle of the bumper is what needs trimmed. The area in need of trimming is circled in the first pic, it is 4.5" from the frontmost outter edge of the black plastic (where line is).

I hope these pics help. I don't know how much you should trim out, looks like whoever installed mine broke the plastic.

I put an OEM A-frame on my 98 D1, and the only thing needing modified was the plinth in the middle of the bumper. Not sure if there are two different ones or not, but I know my bar would not go on unless I notched it on both sides. There was only about an inch clearance between the bar and the metal bumper once installed. The plinth was around 2" thick, so I removed an inch. The bar fits right through the air dam on the bottom. I did wrap it with tap during installation to prevent scratch damage.

Thanks for the help fellas. Got it on last night. I just took the middle plastic piece off. It was all deformed anyway so I ripped that bad boy off.

Has anyone done anything with those bracket/holes on the bumper behind that cover? What purpose can/do those serve?

Make sure to use Grade 8 bolts to mount the guard, and don't trust the shackle mounts on the guard. Many people have pulled with the guard and ended up doing damage to the hood as it rotates.

Just used the stock bolts that hold the bumper on. Thanks for the advice on the recovery point. I had seen some pics of what happens when peeps use those and see it is not pretty.

I am going to do some wheeling with some friends this weekend and have not recieved my jate hooks yet, so I really hope I don't get stuck. I have a hitch reviever recoevery point on the back so I will be ok there back there. Hopefully I will not have to resort to using the tow hooks! (praying not too) If it is a last resort I will make sure to pull from both at the same time. (I.E. "Y" it) Wish me luck!!!
