medium duty vs heavy duty springs??

Ok I know this has probably been covered numerous times, but I'm using my phone and the search feature isn't working on mobile. I have a 2001 disco 2 with 145k. The air suspension compressor just went today, so it's time for a lift. I know I want t the terrafirma 2", just not sure if I should get medium duty our heavy duty springs. I have sliders, and a safari grad front bumper on the truck now. I do not have a winch installed now, but would like to in the future. I also have a safari gard rear bumper sitting in storage that I'm putting on soon.

The truck is not a daily driver, but is the primary family vehicle. It's used for road trips, camping, and some off roading. It spends about 90% of it's time on pavement so it needs to have good road mannerisms. It's also a backup vehicle if my wife's car needs repair.

Should I get the heavy duty due to the weight I have added? Or will medium duty suffice? Looking for info from people who have either installed about how they ride with what kind of weight. I know it's another suspension question, so let the flaming begin as well

HD

Since you use it for family trips and camping and most likely carry about 800 pounds of extra stuff, the HD springs with new shocks will ride nicely on the pavement and flex well when loaded down... Maybe even lose the sway bars. Some folks like them attached... I don't.

An empty truck with no bars and a 2" HD lift is not going to ride nicely but you can't have it both ways. Set it up for its intended use.

I was on the fence between light and medium duty- bone stock 04 DII, no aftermarket bumpers, sliders, etc. I went with the TF 2", medium duty, and the ride is much better than the stock springs. It stiffened up a proper amount- with the stockers, if I so much as went over a speed bump at an angle, the entire truck would still be swaying back and forth well after I was over the bump. With the MD springs there's enough stiffness that the rocking is gone, but the ride isn't harsh.

According to TF's guidelines, I should have bought light duty springs. I'm happy I went with the MD.

Don't know if that helps you any.

Medium

TF Med = OME HD

x2.

I ran a Terrafirma HD springs up front with a Safari Gard bumper and winch and it rode pretty harsh. Be honest with yourself, how often is the truck actually going to be loaded? I ran MD in the rear and I could tell a noticeable difference front/rear.

When my truck was fully laden (x4 a year, maybe) it rode great, but it wasn't worth the sacrifice 85% of the time and it riding like shit up front

Eric, think medium duty will hold all the weight. It's not loaded up a lot, but the bumpers are always there

I have OME HD springs up front on my D2 and MD in the rear. Ride is great. But I also have a 10K winch and ARB bumper on the front.

I'm using Bilstein shocks up front and soon to be Terrafirma out back. Not sure if I'll like terrafirma, but I though I'd try it out.

I have the TF HD's on mine with a rack and TF front bumper (no winch). It gave me exactly a 3" lift. The ride is stiffer than stock, but not terrible. It does tow a lot better now. If you want 2", go with the MD. I would rather have the ride of MD's but I wanted more lift (and got the HD's used)

I run 2" OME HD with bilstien shocks and medium urethane bushings and think it rides great on and off road

I have a built front bumper and 12k winch, safety devices rack, hi lift on rear floor and gear in cargo area that's always there, rides even better loaded down offroad

I see quite a few people on the boards say tf rides harsh but others like em, there's also the Rte springs

Wow 24 hours and no flames, just actual and very helpful advice. I'm very impressed! Thanks to all who answered, I think I'm going with the medium duty all around unless someone talks me out of it by tomorrow afternoon

If you like get some D1 rear spring seats, they sit a little higher (1/2") than the D2's and will make it sit a little more even.

don't hold your breath, so folks must have gone to bed early.:patriot:

I am leaning towards the TF HDs as well, it is on the spring to do list. My truck sits 95% of the time since I have a daily driver.

I replaced my rear airbags and stock front springs and shocks with OME HD springs and their Nitro shocks. I also removed the rear sway bar.

I didn't really notice any ride difference before/after. YMMV

If its not your daily driver go with the HD's. If it is your daily, it depends on how much lift you want and if you mind a firm ride. Mine is my daily driver and I don't mind the stiffness of the HD's. If I only wanted 2" I'd have gone with MD's though.

I have the 781's in the rear. pretty nice ride. Got my new Terrafirma shocks last night. Wish I didn't have the flu so I could put the engine back together and try out the shocks.

I have a set of OME HD on my D2 trail truck (pre TF), ride is stiff. Handles heavy loads well. Carrys the extra weight from sliders, winch and bumper very well.

My daily driver D2 came with med OME's and it bounces and sways way too much for my liking.
