Awesome show on HD Theatre

About the show: "When it comes to rough, rugged and mean, not much compares to the Land Rover. But even this vehicle is put to its limit when a team of roadsters and their old electric Land Rover come to Arizona to compete against a new, powerful diesel engine Land Rover."

An electric '71 Series I (Roderick Wild) , and an gas '89 Rangie (Chad Manz) compete in rock crawling and a 100 yard dash.

It plays again on 12/11 at 9:30 CST.

I have to say it was kinda lame.

neither one could drive and the guy in the RRC was really a wussy ...like come on that RRC would have smoked that series with a better driver.

100 yrd dash and turn around and come back?...he shoulda used low range for sure

and tough to drive like a complete wimp in the last hill climb in part 4:rolleyes:

The electric Rover was very cool. Very well set up too. It had ARB lockers front and rear, upgraded axles among other things. Very powerful too. In high range, in 4th gear standing still, he could burn out with all 4 wheels and leave 2 inch deep trenches in the dirt as he took off.

And that was with a 20HP electric motor and plain old lead acid batteries.

He's bringing back the Maniac Mazda with full lithium ion batteries so watch for him at the drag races. He'll be beating everything and undoubtably setting new world speed records for electric vehicles.

Looks like his RRC is toast now.. hope he is alright

.. and FWIW .. I thought that the show was pretty cool.. better than watching reruns of Family Matters for sure

Yup. Rover is toast. Every body panel on it is bent or smashed. No hopes of rebuilding the body at all. Everything is bent back and to the driver side. I took hard left turn way too fast and did a 3/4 roll. Ended up on the driver side. I unbuckled my seat belt and stood up where the windshield used to be and walked away uninjured. Not a scratch or a bruise.

All the suspension mods, the bumper, winch, rock sliders and a few other things will transfer over to the next one.

The Inti roof rack took quite a hit and about 75% of the metal in it will need to be replaced or rebuilt. It will take time to rebuild, but I think it's possible.

After I'm done swapping parts I'll begin parting out what is left of the '89. Most of the interior is good still, all the glass, the seats, switches, motors, lots of engine parts, bits and pieces, some of the stock suspension that was removed before like radius arms, trailing links, pan hard rod, etc are in my garage. I'll have a web page up when I'm ready to start selling off what's left.

These items were destroyed in the roll over:

Air filter canister
All body panels, all body parts (tailgate and rear hatch MAY be ok)
Brake lamp lenses
European spec white/yellow front turn signals
Grill and headlight surrounds from a 1979 Range Rover
Les Richmond/Rangie Spares snorkel
Passenger side wheels
Pelican 1560 Case (cracked, broken handle)
Radiator
Raised plastic hood letters as on early models
Rear view mirror with map lights from 1990 Range Rover (I have original)
Underhood light lens
Windshield

they should have done an electric series vs a gasoline series. i wonder what the wt difference in the two was.

flex had nothing to do with the engines.

also, had the clutch been operable....the series would have won the 2nd challenge. still, it was an unequal challenge.

good show though! can i have your autograph steve...on my undies?
