yup, drop in replacement. Mine's 4-5 years old and still working great. I hear the newer LED bulbs are brighter too.

Any other good sources for those LED upgrades? They are cheap at $9.97 but they fuck you on the shipping ($7.95).

Try Battery Junction also:

Good guys - regular contributors to the candlepower forums. Cree based drop ins are very nice - I've got them from 2-6 cell versions

If you are in for some good people watching and some "OMG, did I just see that" moments, Walmart has them.

Just saw one while I was at the hardware store pickin' up some washers and thread locker to deal with a cross threaded bolt... more pricey than on that website, but supporting local economy, blah blah, no shipping... anyhow, it's awesome. Gonna keep an eye out for the combo LED/button switch one for the mini maglite.

I think I picked it up at Lowe's....

Mine's been fidgety... has a tendency to cut in and out, tap it and it flickers, unless you have adjusted 'just right'.

The only time mine has not worked is right after I dropped it - then a little twistie of the head, and all was good.

Man I hate the LEDs I have a Mag light and another waterproof one. I fell that LED lights whether flash light or the home replacements while they are bright the actual light they project sucks They are great for a tail light function but I wouldn't want them as a headlight

roverover,

There are different kinds of LEDs man... Try a higher wattage one, like you find in Surefires and the like. The 3 watt LED I put in my 3 D-cell maglite is AWESOME. When focused, it FAR outranges the original light, and in fact, outshines anything else I have. It's quite brilliant.

I bet my small 8" LED light will cast more light a farther distance than a 6 D-cell mag light.

I have an Inova In Force programmable LED light that I use just about daily. Throws light a wicked distance and is quite blinding. In fact, that's kind of what it is designed to do. Its other function is on the foregrip of my LWRC 5.56. Only thing I don't like is the 123 batteries. Eats up a pair every other month. Then again, I use it almost every day.
