Land Rover is ready to launch its Heritage division to support aging models that are still on the road, crawling along trails or tucked away in collections.

Managed within Jaguar Land Rover's Special Operations unit, the new unit will complement the recently-launched Jaguar Heritage program. Both promise to continue providing support for vehicles at least 10 years out of production, across the company's entire global sales network.

Owners will be able to purchase new body, trim and extended-service items for the Range Rover Classic, while salvage and extended-service parts will be offered for the Range Rover P38 and Discovery 1 and 2.

The company is also working to gradually reintroduce more original part numbers for the Series I, II and III. All of the components will be produced using original tooling methods and will be supported under warranty.

"We are delighted to launch Land Rover Heritage, which perfectly complements the recent introduction of Jaguar Heritage," said JLR Special Operations managing director John Edwards. "It is estimated that 70% of all Land Rovers manufactured since 1948 are still in existence so there is a large and very passionate owner base to support through Land Rover Heritage."

A first-generation Range Rover Classic will be brought to the Techno Classica show in Essen, Germany, showcasing a range of newly-manufactured Heritage parts. The company will also eventually offer Heritage Drive events, giving participants a chance to drive classic Land Rover models at the company's 200-acre testing facility in Warwickshire.

It will last until the next serious downturn in the automotive industry. Then, just like before, hope and parts will vanish into thin air.

I have no more faith in Tata than Ford to continue this

I remember hearing from someone at RN, when Ford was selling to Tata, Mark Letorney was scheduled to fly to the UK to purchase whatever outstanding legacy parts were remaining. When he got there he found a fraction of what he expected. A lot was destroyed, some must have been stolen and some must have been sold to European suppliers that were parked at the back door.

So the 2004 D2 i brought brand new is a "legacy vehicle", meanwhile I can just go over to the Toyota Dealer and have every single part of my '97 FZJ80 in my hands in 2 days? Guess I made a good call 5 years ago. Shame LR has shifted focus and left it's fans in the lurch.

I just wonder what channel parts will actually be purchased through. RN/AB (any word Zack?), dealers, or new online store?

Yeah I'm just waiting to see what happens. Could be a great opportunity, especially for RRC owners. I can say we have not been contacted...

Mercedes does a good job with their legacy vehicles. You can get nearly everything albeit in a reduced color range.

One can hope.

We are seeing some major changes in the automotive parts world.

Fortunately, the universal platforms of Land Rovers will allow those of us driving Classic vehicles DIs/RRCs/Series to continue to obtain parts. The parts manufacturers use statistics available through a database that reveals how many of each Make/Model/Engine are still registered for road use. The overlap of parts used in RRC/DI and to some extent DII will allow us to obtain some parts for some time yet.

I was badly dismayed to learn recently that there are no direct replacement (not requiring butchery or heroic efforts to install) heater blower motors available for ANY model year Range Rover Classic as they have been determined to be uneconomic to continue to produce. This had already happened for some reason to door handle and turn signals. As I own 11 complete, intact and operational Range Rover Classics, this is of great concern and dismay to me.

Further, given the costs and difficulty to diagnose and the lack of skilled diagnosticians, the practice of throwing parts at a problem is increasing also, the likelihood of having a high car-count shop indicate that a vehicle "Isn't worth repairing" (which usually means they don't want to try to fix an unfamiliar marque and risk losing money when there are many domestic vehicles that can be skinned in that same period of time allowing their statistics to look better. The auto repair business has gone to a component assembly or sub-assembly replacement business where fewer individual parts are available.

All this said, I really, really do hope that we can see some trucks taken out of moth-balls and put back together again.

Heater cores are available as had a new one installed just before bringing mine over. Kept the old one and could recore it I guess.

Might start looking for a blower motor though.

The dealer here in Liechtenstein just sourced a new gas tank as my recall was still open.

LR corporate ok'd them to do the work.

They have found some unoptanium parts for me in the past such as far rear window rubber seals.
