LR Extended Warranty

This is great info.

I have opted for a Great Lakes warranty for my 00 with 73k miles. 4 additional years, unlimited mileage, $100 deductible, trip interruption coverage, etc - cost is a shade under $3000. It's a named-component contract, so it does have a few things it doesn't cover, but it's pretty comprehensive and does cover the Disco hot spots - seals and gaskets, almost all electrical switches and components, entire cooling system, driveshafts/rotoflex, etc.

What cinched it was that the main LR indy shop in Baltimore has worked with them and said they were fine to deal with - mostly. That's where I'll be taking it for work, so it was important that they had heard of the warranty provider.

thats a good thing, if you know you are going to an indy shop, find out who they use and have a relationship with. Great Lakes is probably better than APCO in that scenario

for people taking it to a LR dealer, get the APCO plan IMO

The other aspect is that my choices were limited with a vehicle of this age and mileage. I had to choose from a third-party warranty provider that would even cover a Disco - many I spoke with did not. I was down to the one from Great Lakes and one I found through carchex.com, but that was quite a bit pricier.

I have an update... I will also post this in the other related thread (mainly to spread the info, but also to boost my post count so I can graduate to "member" from "junior member") :)

I called 10 dealers. 5 in FL, 2 in NC, 1 in OH, and 2 in TX.

  1. LRNA seriously needs to educate their dealers finance mgrs on the current policy. I have heard everything from "you don't qualify at all - sorry can't help - good bye" to "I can offer you a non-LR backed warranty" to "yes, you qualify for LR Assured, how can I help you... no you don't need an inspection" - guess which one I went with.
  2. FL is the only state that regulates extended warranties... they are fixed price - no negotiation. FL Statues CHAPTER 634, WARRANTY ASSOCIATIONS, PART I, MOTOR VEHICLE SERVICE AGREEMENT COMPANIES (ss. 634.011-634.289)
  3. I attempted to buy one from another state... the one in OH was willing, but only if I had a previous service history with them and the gentleman stated there isn't that much markup if you are not the original owner getting an Assured plan... hundreds, not thousands markup - he could have been bullshitting me.
  4. I was informed Assured and Easy Care have the same underwriter... APCO. (The Assured info I have states APCO is the admin.)
  5. I had a couple dealers inform me that if you miss the 1mo/1000mi before factory warranty expires guideline but are still under factory warranty, you can still qualify for Assured. Just requires you signing an agreement that you will be responsible in the next 1000mi or 1mo for any repairs... like a provisionary period.
  6. If for some reason you can not get LR Assured... the other one mentioned most often and recommended by the various dealers is Easy Care.
In the Assured Contract regarding compliance w.r.t. service. It only states you need to have service performed in intervals recommended by the manufacturer. It does not state it must be done at a LR dealer. It does state you may be requested to furnish proof of service in order to have warranty work covered. Service within 3000 mis or 90 days of the recommended interval is still considered in compliance.

I hope this info is helpful.

To let all of you know... here in TN is it 1 month or 1000 miles before. The dealer in Nashville told me that it after my extended warranty expires on 75,000 miles, that the price cont. to get more and more with less miles it covers.

This is true.

I have the LR Assured Warranty. I recently moved to Tallahassee, and there is no LR Dealership. :(

Prior to moving, I called both the regular Land Rover and the Land Rover Warranty phone numbers - and asked them if they could recommend someone for service when I need it.

They did not have anyone to recommend. They said that they will cover work done at any licensed repair facility.

I still have no clue where I will go when I need service. :(

Land Rovers are scarce in this area.

Wow, you ain't kidding. Wherever you go, you're gonna need a ride. How about these places:

Matheny Land Rover - Jacksonville Florida
Regional Motors - Gainesville Florida
Land Rover Gulf Coast - Mobile Alabama
European Auto Service - Tuscaloosa Alabama

I could find anything else that was close to you. I'm sure there is something...
