Is the schraeder on the fuel rail accessible without removing the

Yep, at least on my 97' it is. It's on the passengers side of the fuel rail and it just sort of sits there; you can't really miss it. I'd take a pic. but my wife has the truck at work.

Yes, it is. Location varies with what type of vehicle you are actually working on. Pre-Bosch, out in plain sight. Bosch, '99-ish and later, it's at the end of the rail on the drivers side, just at the back of the plenum, up underneath. It's a feel thing.

Crap....sorry lads - it's a D2.

Back to the garage, I'll see if I can find it. The RAVE manual is positively useless on this...grrr. I assume I'm looking for another green cap?

Just checked the Rave CD and it appears to be at the top rear of the engine on the drivers side.

Thanks Chris, I've got the RAVE CD and saw that schematic too, but I still can't find it.

Check this pic:

Looks like a rubber hose on your pict, not the fuel rail.

I briefly looked for mine also, no dice. From the RAVE it looks like it is underneath the upper intake manifold, like frickjp said, you might have to feel around for it.

Octopus PLenium needs to come off. It sucks BALLS to do.

Damn, damn double damn.

I was seriously hoping it would be accessible without performing surgery. Not sure I've got the guts to do that on my own. A buddy (mechanic) and I did my 60k last year and we started to remove the octopus plenum (I like that) but got stuck somehwere along the way - no RAVE CD at the time. At any rate, we got most of the perifial pieces off but hit a roadblock.

It didn't seem terribly complicated, but there were a lot of little parts and pieces.

If I do take the manifold off and get to the valve, is a pressure gauge for a schraeder valve a pretty common item?

Thanks again Chris.

You don't need to disassemble anything to check the fuel pressure. I assume that's our goal. The end of the fuel rail is indeed under the plenum. It's at the top of the arch of the intake runner. In your pic, put your hand just to the passenger side of the idle stabilizer valve. See that accordian wire loom that's supposed to clipped to the firewall? Put your hand right about in the centre of the hanging loop. Reach your fingers down right under the middle of the aluminum runner. The test port is right there. It has a small stainless cap on it from the factory, just like a BMW factory tire valve cap. A flexible hose tire guage will work just fine. We use a right angle test gizmo, but only because we already have one.

Jeff, you're getting me excited.

Let me try and paraphrase:

The valve is located under the driver's side intake plenum, at the top or the plenum's arch? I tried capturing it on the picture, but it didn't come out very clear. Do I need to remove any of the misc. components to get at it?

Perhaps I should buy one of those mechanic's mirrors to help see it.

Thanks a ton!
Adrian

I've had to take the Plenium off of every one I did. I'm intersted too.

Of course, I have Twinkies on the end on my hands. :)

Take a look at the manifold. From the front. The plenum is arched. Like McDonalds, if you will. The test port is right under the drivers side arch at the rear. You don't need any tools, mirrors, chain saws, porta-powers or nuclear devices. Stick your had on top of the drivers side "arch," and reach down. It's right there. About an inch below. Just to the left of the idle stabilizer is the top of the arch. The next engine I have out, I'll have to take a pic.
