My tank is at the fabricators where he drawing up dimensions and a quote for a new tank in SS. As it is for a Designa coil chassis it is basically a stock series tank with the inner corner chopped off to clear the rear link mount on the chassis. If he made it square without the chop it would be identical to a stock tank, sender and pickup in the same spot and a drain in the bottom. Would anyone be interested in a Stainless Steel tank for their truck since the plans will be in place already? I'll have a number on what it would go for soon.

Just a thought, but does the drain have to be in the 'stock' bottom/center location? Last time I had my tank in for cleaning, the place welded in another drain/plug in the side immediately adjacent to the bottom. That is less vulnerable than the bottom location, while the shop guy said that made it easier to drain completely, especially if the tank or vehicle is angled slightly.

But yeah, I'd be interested. I know I'll be needing one before too long....

Oh, yeah...any way to 'bullet-proof' the bottom better? That stuck-on double skin on the stock tank just provides a secure place for the rust-worm to hide. Most tank failures I've seen have been from the outside in....

Cheers

The tanks we got with our Designa chassis were hand made also but out of mild steel. I am sure the mild steel would last longer than stock. They were alot thicker. Dont remember what they cost. The more they make the cheeper they should be. We had a main and aux tank.

Depends on quality. If your guy can make it like Forover ever, AKA John Gerding, then I'd be interested...

Cost will be right about $400. Mine will be ready soon and I will post some pics after I pick it up. I'm making no attempt at turning the bottom into a skid plate but these will be tougher than the stamped steel tanks. A skid plate is easy to fab or available pre made from Pangolin 4x4.

Here it is next to the old one, beautiful work. Not sure if he wants to do it again as I think he underquoted it at 400.
