All,
I've searched; but, any serach related to keys and ignition seems to return the stuck key issue.

I went out to the Disco this morning and the ignition key would not turn. I was hoping someone would be able to give me a starting point for diagnosis. I checked that the truck was in park and moved the steering wheel. I looked quickly to see if the brake switch was being triggered when I stepped on the brake.

I'll need to move the truck by Friday for alternate side of the street parking or get my first parking ticket of the new year.

Thanks in advance.

Alternate side parking....Oh how I dont miss living in Brooklyn.. Fixing shit before they come to ticket me..

Does the key turn at all? I am guessing you tried violently shaking the steering wheel back and forth?

never delt with this issue myself but quick searched turned up this

http://landroverforums.com/forum/discovery-ii-18/ignition-lock-fix-35422/

and taping the ignition with a mallet and spraying some lube in it (proceed at own risk).. or maybe even some of that lock deicer? after all it was like 10 degrees last night..

Just go ahead leave the key in it and window down and let someone get in there and try to steal it. Insurance company will total it, you can buy it back and get a new (used) switch/lock asm on here for $130...

If you want to make sure they take it just leave a screw driver in the drivers seat.. I can make a couple calls and have it moved for you...

or you could call a lock smith and let them screw you in the arse

I should add that both of those options will be more expensive that 1 NYC parking ticket but come Friday you'll be in better shape..

When you put the key in does the center part of the ignition depress? If not take a punch and pop it once it depresses you can put the key in and it should turn.

Mine does this once in a while so I just carry a hammer and while the key is in the ignition I tap it with the hammer some untill it will turn. Works every time. Don't hit it hard

D1 / D2 ???? Are they the same ? If it' s a D2, they can be finnicky in the winter, especially if parked outside. If it's fucking really cold, mine just don't wanna work period.

Starting a rover is kinda like a ballet. I have had plenty of people that "can't " turn the key in my truck. I'm usually intoxicated in the passenger seat and reach over and start it.
(i wont swear by it, but I think I've even been superlocked inside with a few psycho bitches too )

Earlier this week we had our coldest night. Drive to work, key does not want to come out.
Start truck...... key out. bada bing.

It's a 1999 D1.

I'll try taping it tonight. One way or another it is moving tonight.

Thanks,
Brian
