The main culprit that sets up minor vibes and squeeks (like a little bird) is the front propshaft, notably the DC joint in it. These seem to fail often enough, they can snap out and if they do snap out at speed will also smash your transmission. To check it you can grab it and twist it to check for any play. There are also visual signs like the grease shields coming out. Dont leave this failed at all! They easily break and they do a lot of damage!!! You can also get them rebuilt with greasable unjoints etc, thats common practise in Australia.

The other one that does it, usually when under load such as taking off from a standstill or at speed (about 70-80km/h) is the rear rotoflex which can collapse. Check this with the shaft under no load. The bolts should all be equidistant, not like in the photo.

those are some pretty rough pic's. are those yours?
Yep, they're mine. I was going through a front shaft about every 17000km (11000mi?) which is 12months on the dot for me. I've now got Tom Woods 1310 shafts and they seem to be up to it. The rear rotoflex, I'd pop when I did something silly but thats been replaced with a uni shaft now. Although the Rotoflex is weak, it seems to take some of the impact out of the rear driveline much like the Ashcroft cushdrives. Not long after the conversion to unis I broke a diff and snapped an axle.

which why the factory uses a rotoflex...these axles are only 'just' up to the job and once you are pounding the trail a direct coupling will allow chatter inside the diff...which soon dies as a result. I'd rather carry a spare rotoflex than have the expense and aggravation of killing a diff.

Thanks for all your help! I still have the vibe even after a rebuild and balanced front prop shaft. Now, in addition, I get a vibration and noise at idle with the car still in gear. When I take it out of gear the noise goes away. Any ideas what would cause this? There is also some play on the front shaft were it comes out of the TC, is that normal? I did replace the fluid but not the filter on my trans around 85k. I think the dealer may have done it around 30k, should I trust the dealer or change the filter too? I now have 93k.

Oh, I also checked the rear shaft and everyhing looks ok to me. Maybe some small cracks on the rubber, but nothing like those pics.

I've got the same issue, which i think is causing my vibes also. i did put in a new drive shaft, and i believe that thats when i got the vibe. but have not dug in to it yet. gonna try and put the old shaft back in and see if the noise goes away..

oh yeah my frt. output flange has the movement from inside the the case. not really at the flange. reason i say this is, if i grab the flange and try to move it. the slack i hear is coming from with in the case
