Yes, it's done electronically. There is no on/off switch/lever/etc.. for it... when the vehicle senses that it needs it, it will lock it... same with the rear if equipped.

We've been looking for an HD equipped 08 or 09 HSE. Very difficult to find one in White or Buckingham blue, and only one avail in black. Can anyone give me build numbers for 08 and 09 LR3 HSE equipped with the HD package?

I suspect HD Package availability varies market to market. I found that it was extremely rare to find it in So Cal, but quite a few in UT & CO. It leads me to believe that areas with harsh weather conditions were more likely to stock HD truck on their lots as it's a more desired option in those regions. In So Cal it's just an added expense for something most won't use or need.

I bought mine in AZ, but the PO originally purchased it in CO where it lived for 5 months. It wasn't until I got the truck home that I confirmed it was a HD LR3 as the dealer had absolutely no idea (Wasn't a LR Dealer). Maybe if you broaden your search area you'll find something.

How long before ARB makes an air locker for the LR3?

I've heard them (ARB North America) say never. Too many bits and computers talking to other computers and smallish market world wide to offset R&D.

Most of the locking rear diffs needed to be replaced, may want to check if it has been.

Most of the locking diffs had to be replaced ? some rear diff motors needed to be replaced. where did you get your info ? cause your way wrong about rear diffs needing to be replaced.

I'd actually like to know from an LR3 expert, what situations is the locking rear going to make a real difference and when it won't really matter much...ruts of snow or mud, steep incline traction on loose and/or hard surfaces, etc, etc.

If ya gotta ask......Yer a wheeling Noob! :p
I used to think I was good with my open diffs, then with the rear diff locked only, then I had locker front and rear. Each step adds better traction. Th reality is on a daily basis you don;t need a locking rear diff. If you are off-road on a regular basis adding or having a rear locker will ease the wear and tear on your vehicle, mainly because you will have to use less of the "keep moving method" to get over things (bumps, rocks, logs, whatever) due to the additional traction.

Easiest way is to peak into the passenger side rear wheel well and look for the actuator.

Bingo, this is by far the easiest way to tell if you have the locker or not. The actuator can be seen via the space above and behind the rear passenger tire

Does the presence or lack of the digital screen above the stereo give any indication as to whether or not there is a rear locker?

Like if it has the screen it may or may not have the rear locker but if it does NOT have the screen then it definitely does NOT have the locker??
