Dealership at Tyson's told me it's gonna be like 800 because you have to replace some mounting shizzle with the windshield. Is this bogus or for real?

i dont know what year you have but my 98 was 300 (safelite)for glass and i reused the trim (trim kit 200.00) i used new carpet tape on the trim kit so it would stick again.
i did this twice.
on my 3rd shield i sprung for the trim kit as the old one was getting shabby.

$150 to install LOF Pilkington glass w/o molding kit.
I always sell a molding kit with a new windshield w/o markup ($148)for the simple fact it easer fast and better installation. As for Safelite here you tacking your life into your hands on that.

I would steer clear of that dealership...

Does your car insurance include glass coverage? They changed mine for $0 to me, it didn't have chips/cracks but it had lots of sparkle in the morning sun.

Matt, there's a place on Eisenhower Ave. in Alexandria that has treated me well. Not sure if it's safelite or one of the others though. If you're at tysons, ask for Charles Lin (service advisor) he'll give you the straight dope and is an enthusiast.

Call a glass shop, tell them you are paying cash and the will make you a deal. Had my Acura done for $220 and my volvo for $240 installed at my house. The volvo is not a common one either. Funny, but mine is cracked too....lol...I am afraid to get another, as I am sure its going to break again with the driving I do!!

Yeah. Charles Lin is the only good guy there. That place sucks. And I'm not going through them. Going through Triumph auto glass. Recommended by my old independent shop.

Will, thanks for the offer, I wish I had checked this earlier as I was just down in Charlottesville and could have driven down there and gotten and visited my grandparents for a night. Oh well. Maybe I'll get another crack the next time I'm roadtripping. ;)

$300 for the heated windscreen? Man, that is cheaper than what it costs for my Series 88.

I was quoted over $600 for a heated windshield w/o installation on my 99 DII, but in Alaska they spray the parking lots and streets with gravel instead of salt so, I am more susceptible to cracks in my shield...

I believe it differs and is mandated by each state, but here in SC, if you carry comprehensive insurance coverage, your insurance company MUST replace your damaged windshield for free with no deductible and no recordable incident on your policy. They are allowed to evaluate for repairability. For example, if it's only chipped, they'll likely repair it with epoxy. If it's cracked accross the field of vision, they cannot repair and must replace. All has to do with the number of accidents due to poor visibility associated with the sun hitting cracked or scratched windshields..

None of the insurance companies advertise this point. Many don't even know about it. State Farm actually told me about it and replaced two windshields for me on a CIVIC I once had. One of those incidents was even due to an intentional act of vandalism (brick through the windshield). The second was a rock kicked up from a truck. When the D1 got a chip, I called my current insurance company, USAA, and they denied the claim until I pushed it. Same story. After checking their state-specific policy constraints, they repaired FREE OF CHARGE, with NO DEDUCTIBLE and NO INCREASE IN PREMIUMS.

In short, move to SC.

Well... South Carolina does rock. And ultimately, I will move there. But somebody else is in charge of my life for quite some time now... :). Yeah, Colorado's state specific shizzle didnt cover it and I couldn't work it since I'm now in VA to get it without the deductible, mine was 500 bone so I'd have to pay out of pocket anyway.

If your installer isn't familiar with the Disco windshield and tries to reuse the moulding, there will be a good chance for leaks. Partly because of the insurance laws here in SC, I try to make sure that all the replacement jobs have new mouldings - However, I do that mainly because I hate seeing people need to have the job redone because the installer thought that the mouldings were 'good enough'.

Sucks to be you! Glad I'm gone. I can drink in restaurants on sunday and buy liquor 6days a week until 11:00 or so at night. Beer is for sale 24 hrs a day except sunday. My sympathies. Blue Laws:ack:

Sorry, no more hijacking
