How much $$ have you put into your Rover?

I guess I need justification. Why do I love this beastly hunk of metal? Why can't I just simply part with it? It's just a freaking truck Dangit!!!

How much money have you all spent to keep your beloved Rover on the road? I may do a complete overhaul to my D1 because it means that much to me. It still would be cheaper than buying a new car...yeah...right...I test drove an '04 DII last night and really it was in great shape with extended warranty. Funny how well my D1 was so well behaved on the way home. I think it knows I'm up to something...

I'd be interested in hearing other people's thoughts on how to come to this ever important decision. I just can't justify 2 rovers on my own, although that certainly would be the easiest decision. What to do, what to do? I have a daily driver, too, but that's another story kept to the Audi forums...

I need rover counseling!

$13,921 since 6/30/04 - this does not include the purchase price.

Most of those are mods... not going to lie, rover parts are pricey due to the small market and small competition.

No major repairs. 107000 miles strong, had since 58000.

I'd rather not talk about this. It makes me sad and triggers convulsions(sp?).

ya know its funny, you hear talk about how stupid it is to put $5000 stereos into $1000 old pieces of shit.. or the $500 84 regal, with $8000 wheels.. but we do the same damn thing. our $2500 D1s with $10k worth of mods..

i never started counting.. that gets depressing.

I bought an 89 RRC for $6k in 2000.
Spent about $3k on it in parts only, doing all the work by myself.
Then I loaned it to somebody who returned it to me a month and a half later 6 quarts low in coolant...
Sold it for $1000...

it really depends on if you mean cost of keeping it on the road or cost of all the modifications? cost of keeping my '95 on the road over my past 7 years/75k miles of ownership I would say is under $4k. mods on the other hand? waaaaaay higher.

Paid $16.6K for my 99DII it in '05 with 43K miles and one owner. Have spent roughly $12K since then, but this includes a completely rebuilt 4.6L (including new 4.6 pistons), cam kit, new rad, new hoses, new 02 sensors, new injectors, new cam sensor, new front cover, new tires, an extra set of wheels, OME shocks and springs, roof rack, bumper, plugs, wires, tools, oil, coolant, tranny fluid, other useless upgrades (powercoating, mesh grill), blah blah blah etc., etc.

And I'm still renting... I could have thrown down on a house by now... Smart Hunter, real smart...

F-IT... It's fun.

I got my current Disco new in 01. There were a couple of warranty items, all related, I think. Other than that, not much at all really.

My main expense is simply changing oil, changing coolant, flushing this, flushing that. It eats up brake rotors pretty fast, but even that isn't so bad.

I always drain the oil amber, and that get's expensive. I use Amsoil in Land Rovers, and that, when drained amber, is very expensive, but not in the grand scheme of things. I flush the motor out with new oil and some mild cleaner every 10,000 before refilling after a change. I flush my coolant every 30,000, that's not too bad.

I'd say the only thing that drives me nuts on her is parking light bulbs and turn signals. It's British, what do you want? If those cats had their way, we would still have gas headlamps.

So, I don't really have much of a problem. I'm sure I've spent several thousand dollars over the years on preventative maintanance alone, but it has been worth it.

We don't want to touch on Mods, though. :)

Cheers,

Kennith

My D1 is modded for trail use. It just is time for an exhaust overhaul (cats/y-pipes, manifold) and O2 sensors, as well as 120k service, and it needs new pads/rotors. I'm ready to replace some hoses, too. Oh yeah, I'm sick of the sludge from the power steering leak, as well. I need to sack up, eh? It sure looks good in the driveway though.

Yeah, selling the audi has come across my mind, but I average at leasst 25k miles per year for work. I need the speed!

Or, do I...

2000 DII , bought it NEW in Feb, 00 (his birthday this month:))

Since Purchase only about $1800
That does not include work while it was under warranty, but it does include
maint. as well as repairs.

I currently only have 66000 miles on the bugger.

2000 D2. Bought in 2004 for $24K.

Around $15000 in mods as it sits right now. If i were to go back and add in the previous mods, stuff which i bought and later took off and sold at a lesser price, i would have to add on another $3000 in losses there. And then if you take into account that I bought a welder $1200 and all of the various metalworking tools $1000 or so, because if i dont add those things in i should be adding market value for bumpers and sliders instead of what they cost me in materials. So i guess it could be said that im $20,200 into this truck. Thank god the $3000 worth of stereo stuff was free from my old mtb racing sponsor. Either way, i nearly shit myself whenever i think of this topic :ack:

About $805 of repairs that I can remeber. And theres probably another $800 of them that i have forgot. I have to say my shitpile has been pretty reiiable.

What's even more scary is if you totalled your rig tomorrow, what's the blue book you'd get for it from the insurance company?

Now you can shit yourself.
