How do you find someone to mow your lawn?

Ok, so I've tried everything I can think of at this point. I called 40 "Lawn Maintenance" companies within a 10 mile radius of my house, and not ONE of them will mow a lawn. I don't know of any kids in the area that would mow either. I tried sending out service requests through all of the online services. I tried Land Rover Concierge. Our lawn mower broke, and Ron doesn't have time to mow with his new job (and I doubt the neighbors would appreciate 1 am lawn mowing, anyway). I know there are tons of people that mow lawns, I just have no idea how to get in contact with them!! Any ideas?

If you walk into the closest convenience store - not a chain but a mon-n'pop place, there's probably a bulletin board with notes, business cards, etc., all stuck to it, with one of them being someone who's looking to mow yards.

If the convenience store doesn't pan out, try a small-engine repair shop/lawnmower shop, they'll probably have a similar board there.

At least, in this neck of the woods, there would be......

Do the neighbors all mow their own, or do any of them have their lawns mowed? Could you ask them for the the number of who does theirs?

Good luck,

Believe me, I've thought about those options, but there aren't really any conveniene stores aroud that would be that type of place. This is a mighty hoity toity area...
Some of the neighbors have their lawns mowed, but many do it themselves. Problem is, I don't know any of our neighbors.... So, excuse me, umm, you don't know me, but I was wondering... who mows your lawn?

Might be a good way to get to know the neighbors, eh? :)

Hmmm...... maybe, drive around and find a lawn that's being mowed that has a truck in the driveway that they unloaded the mower off, and run up and see if they have a number on the door, or flag down the mower and ask....

Contact your local Boy Scout troop. When I was in Scouts, we mowed lawn to pay for Summer camp, backpacking trips, or other events. If none of them are interested, I am sure they will know somone who would do it. Plus you'll be doing something to help our youth.

Stalk your neighbors until one of the lawn care guys shows up to cut their grass and then get their number.. Or just go up and ask one of the folks that you know has some one do their lawn and..

Say some thing like "Hi, I live down the street and I really love how well your yard looks could I have the number of your lawn care folks? " not really hard to do.. Just don't do it durring dinner time..

You could also go to your local nursery ( plant shop ) and ask them..

You could also try looking in the want adds section of your local/city paper..

I moved into a new house this past spring and was in the same situation. The grass was up to my knees until I found a guy to mow the lawn!
I came home one day and found a business card of a landscaping guy in my mailbox. I called him up in the morning and he came by and mowed it the same day. I guess he saw my yard and knew I was in need of his services :D

Funny, at my new house I get at least 5 ads every day with everyone offering me to move my lawn. But then again, I'm not that far away from the border... oh, never mind ;)

Problem solved. One of the companies called back to say that they would mow it after all. Highway robbery, but it'll be done.

It's only highway robbery if you decide to pay them. I'd go with an independent. Take the advice of an earleir poster and call a small engine repair shop in the area. They will for sure know the name of someone who can mow your lawn.

Have you tried the classifieds in the local paper? Look under ?Work Wanted?, usually 5 or more ads for lawns wanted to mow in our paper.

Hope you don't take this the wrong way, but I think it's sexy when a women knows how to run power tools :D .

Sexy in meaning that she's tuff and one to reckon with.

Power tools I have no problem with. I just redid one of our bathrooms, without an ounce of help from Ron. A lawnmower, I do have a problem with. I have no doubt that I will lose a foot sooner rather than later. Our front yard is a steep hill.

No mexican restaurants around (unless you count Taco Bell). No lawn mowing work wanted in the paper. No mowing adverts in the local circulars.

If I went the boyscout route, wouldn't I have to get a lawn mower? It isn't like they'd bring their own.

I will look in the grocery store at the bulletin board & see if anyone has posted.

Good suggestions, everyone.

I'm going to go with the one guy that answered for now and see if I can get it done cheaper later.
