How big of a load can a disco tow?

Hello,

I have a 96 disco and I am about to be making a 5000 km trip and I was wondering how much of a load I can tow with it?

On a long distanc tow, I would limit it to about 3000 lbs. My D1 with an open trailer and a car (about 3500) is ok on long trips. Taking the enclosed trailer and the car about 5000lbs, is a LOT more work. Also the D1 and D2 do not have a very long wheel base. So they are a lot more nervous than a big SUV.

95 5-speed, stock drive train and tires:
Towed u-haul car trailer with classic mini-cooper station wagon, Charleston, SC to N. GA mountains --- no big deal
Towed same trailer with D90 ragtop, Atlanta ariport to 20 miles west of atlanta -- Wouldn't want to go far like that.

lol beat that with my RHD 87 RRC 2400 mile round trip Ontario to Minneapolis towing a 2000lb Uhaul car trailer with a 6000lb new york checker taxi on it with spares inside and tied underneath and on Y frame
lol went on weigh bridge 8500lbs did trip in 5 days at 70mph, mind you there were a few hairy moments like nearly anal probing an RV, but the gods of coffee were with me - you'll be fine just take a fire extinqusher for your transfer case and tie bags under your diffs to catch the chunks, and roll a fat one :)

It was about 1:59AM a few years ago... late... closing time... none of my friends were there to see me...


... it hauled her fat ass out of there, so I know for a fact it'll haul 320 pounds.
