How are these 16" wheels?

I currently have factory 18" wheels but I need new tires, and I know 18" isn't preferred for off roading even in the least. The tires are super expensive in 18" as well. It'd be cheap (and cool looking!) to pick up these wheels and a set of taller sidewall (naturally, in 16") tires like the General Grabber.

Are these wheels something I can drive on full time? I don't see why not.

What tire size should I get in 16x7"?

...I have always hated that specific wheel style. Dunno why. Just do.

Make the switch, but keep lookin'.

I'm sure that was your question, right? about the look of one vs. the other?

(if it wasn't, then yeah, you can drive full time on 16" steel wheels vs. factory 18's)

Yes, these are 16" wheels. When you see a discription of "16x7" or "16x8", the 16 is diameter the rim size and the 7 or 8 is the rim width.

These should work fine as replacements for 18" rims.

Thanks yeah I realise the sizing - my question should have been phrased "is 7" enough for an everyday tire or would they be better suited for just snow tired/seasonal tires?"

I don't know the stock 16" wheel dimensions, and 7" sounded narrow. I realise I can drive on steel wheels guys.

So, being 7" wide, is that decent? I don't know what the factory 16" wheels are in width because I don't have them. What tire size would you get on a non-lifted Disco II? I'd like as big (height and width) as I can, without causing rubbing issues when turning etc.

Every tire mfg provides the suggested rim width range for a specific tire. Find the tires you like, then see what rim width is needed. You won't have any issues finding a good tire for a 7" width though, depending on how wide a tire you want.
Personally, I prefer narrow tires.

Those steel rims are sold in Aus by Procomp - well, at least they look the same. If it is they are offset slightly and sit wider than the factory 16x7 rims (most d2's outside of NAS spec run on 16x7" rims) There is no prob with running the rims, but you'll notice on the first link at the top of this thread that there is a comment that says it suits standard sized tyres only or something along those lines. I suspect thats because larger tyres might rub on the guards rather than tuck in behind the guards. This will be less of a problem if you have some lift.

It is a fine size to run daily driver tyres. If you do get the General Grabbers, there are a lot of people that are really happy with them, but the P construction tyres seem to be really really bad under the Disco2 with delamination and punctures. The LT's are good.

In terms of fitment of tyres to 7" rims... people here are running up to 265/75-16 radials and 33x10.5-16 Simex. The 265/75's are an excellent size if you want to go oversized. 235/70-16 if you want to stay standard.

I know this will sound funny / jenky but I bought Camaro stock steel wheels. $25 a piece used and then repainted them.... I have wheeled the shit out of these wheels and use them as daily drivers for the past 3 years.... personally I wouldn't go any other way, for the price, if choosing a steel wheel. Yes, you will need new lug nuts,,,, got mine from Expedition exchange. These wheels fit straight on to my DII with no modification.

Search Camaro in this forum to find right year wheels and other info,,, including my work finding the right wheels a few years ago.

Not the only way but thought I'd at least let you know another option. :victory:
