Heuer Watches

Personally, I like the classic watches from the 50's and 60's. I have 3 classic Omega wrist watches and an older Longines. The Longines and one of the Omegas are tank style that are more dressy. One of the Omega's is a manual wind and the other two are automatics. As for new watches, I have a Mont Blanc and a Movado that are both nice. I also have a very old Seiko that my Dad gave me which is automatic and I either wear it or my Kenneth Cole or Skagen to bum around on the weekends.

I just have a thing for watches I guess. ;)

You mean Breguet?

Luke, after the wannabe's on rennlist I thought you would be into this:
Greg - I actually did spell it right, in CAPS (read back). The relation to the popular French bread was an intentional grammatical joke between Ho and myself...I actually have this one:

That's TAG's primary market: young, unsophisticated watch buyers who want a real timepiece but can't yet afford to blow serious money on a watch, and are willing to settle for a TAG because they perceive TAG to be a premium brand. TAG's are very artfully marketed to this segment of the population as premium watches and sold in fine jewelry shops but they're hunks of shit. Not only are they copycats, they're not made to fine-timepieces standards. Not even close. Most of their watches are also quartz.

John - First, all the watches I posted were made by HEUER. I would not waste my money on a TAG. I agree with you, for the most part all the new TAG's are junk. That's why I bought a Breguet and am just looking for something vintage that is unique and that I won't worry about breaking. And if I do, it won't cost me an arm and a leg to repair and I'll have the Breguet as a backup or, as previously mentioned, formal settings.

Lee-Tag's aren't shit. Have you ever owned one? I have many watches including: Rolex GMT, Omega constellation, Hamilton pipping rock, mont blanc, and a luminox. And the one I wear the most is my Tag. I just like it. Maybe I am a cheap bastard like you have called me before, but oh well. I guess i am just not cool enough to have your omega

my tag has been the best so far. i think metal bands r 2 heavy (even in ti) although theybend when they snag something, and yes i do wear my watch when i wrench.the leather straps don't like to go kayaking.
my ti weighs as much as a cheap electonic and has taken hits that would have killed a lesser watch, and not even been scratched( ie. been drug across concrete a few times in bike wrecks).what do those omega's weight? about the same as my cell phone?
but then i have been on the lookout for a good classic for formal wear.

Hey Luke,

Does Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton still hold TAG? that '64 Carrera looks good, TAG had very close ties with motorsports back in the day, I wonder if that Valjoux is stock or has any interesting mods.

One more manufacturer gone the route of exploiting a once prestigious and well-regarded name... LOL

Bruno.

Ps. in '64 there were also units built with the "Lemania 1873" movement.

I've been looking at some of these older (60's) Heuer watches. I like the Carrara model but was wondering if any of you have one, or know anything about them. Saw the original Getaway with Steve McQueen last night and it got me interested. Thanks in advance.

Luke

Luke,

I am a pretty serious watch collector and aficionado. The old Heuers (pre TAG) are very collectable now, more so since TAG started to reissue hommages to their old racing chronos. In good condition they are usually around $1K, some models could easily go for twice that. The old valjoux movements are classics and are still easily servicable. I would love to pick up an old 60's model one day.
If you want one, I would get one soon as they are only going to become harder to get, and more expensive. You can still find fair deals on Ebxy or other internet watch collector sites.
Good luck. You won't ever regret owning a classic.
