help with clutch failure

Pulled into intersection the other night and heard a clunk similar to when my 94 Disco's manuel transmission slips, but I was unable to reengage the gears. I am stuck in neutral. There is a slight whine when I switch gears with the stick. I do not need to push in the clutch to move through the gears. The drive shafts are still connected. I'm 90% sure the clutch is going to need replacing. The truck seems normal except that I can't go into gear. Any help, suggestions, ideas. Thanks Alonzo

I don't believe so; I'll check when I get home, but I hadn't played with the CDL recently, perhaps it could have engaged itself.

If you can change gears with the engine running and without the clutch pedal depressed, my off-the-cuff guess is that either your clutch is disengaged, due to a problem with the hydraulics or the linkage at the slave cylinder inside the bell housing, or your input shaft is hosed.

I would agree with clutch or clutch control, but was wondering aloud if one could change gears without the clutch if there was no load at the transmission output, ie: a rounded off transmission output shaft on a manual or the adaptor on an automatic??
