Hayden Clutch Fan

Do anyone use a Hayden 2772 clutch fan on their V-belt engine? I saw a listing for this as being heavy duty and was wondering if it would pull more air than an OEM type.

In other posts here, I have seen alternative clutch fans for the seprentine models but nothing for a v-belt.

Just a quick update. I talked with Hayden today and they said that the HD was just a name and did not make it any more effective at pulling more air. Just a marketing ploy, I guess.

So it doesn't appear that anyone makes a REAL heavy duty unit for the v-belt models.

IIRC - Hayden's fan clutches have different numerical part number for HD (or severe duty) vs. regular. For those that come in either style, there was a very noticeable difference in performance. FWIW, Hayden's HD model that fits LR (Chevy clutch) is very tight, much tighter than LR's.

I got around to installing this unit in my '93 rrc lwb (v-belt) last night, it only took 15 minutes to swap. I can't really comment on noise it is since the old one was always on but it seems to work just fine. The motor warms up much faster now and the heat inside the cabin is more than plenty. I actualy had to turn the heat down this morning. It was $67 shipped to my door from partsamerica/advanceauto.

I have seen too many OEM viscous units fail to have any confidence in them. Other makes don't have these problems!

I think a genuine clutch is the only way to go..

why so you can spend three times as much for a lesser fan clutch?

I have installed a number of the chevy ones and they work perfect.

yes the severe duty are a bit over the top...but slugging trough deep sand in the summer or pulling a long big hill with the rack packed up and the AC going in 90* weather it sure does help.

No luck with the Genuine Part, the Defender 90 uses a different clutch than the Classic. The Hayden does fine on my RRC but all I can find for the 90 is the Torqflo which is absolutely worthless.

I'd have to slog through my memories to recall what model number it was, but I am running the Hayden clutch on my 90 RRC with new genuine replacement fan. It's noisier than the oem (and I assume the standard Hayden clutch), but I'm in AZ and I can use all the cooling air I can get.
