WOW, thats crazy...

I'm amazed that there were armed people in the group and no one shot the crazy bastard. I know I sure as hell would have.

No, they did the right thing and got the hell out of there and helped their friend! Revenge killing is stupid. Right now at my work we are all in mourning. A well loved and lovely lady whose worked here for years was shot and killed by her boyfriend Sunday night. Her 20 year old son hunted the boyfriend down about an hour later and shot and killed him. now that family (and us) are dealing with 2 tragedies. You can't bring back the dead! I know I would feel like killing someone if a loved one was killed, but goddammit we have to be civilized...even if it against our own instincts.

Not knowing who you will run into deep in the woods, I'd say it's best to at least have a side-arm (no pun) with you wherever possible. wild animals, wild people and drunk assholes are all possibilities.

Wow, sorry to hear about that.

In regards to the above incident, I wouldn't shoot in revenge. As you said thats just stupid. However, I would shoot in defense of myself and others. If a crazy fugger just blew one guys arm off he sure as hell is a danger to anyone else within range.

i can't say i'm against revenge killing, imo there are certain instances where the justice system just can't do enough.

as far as the sammy offroad tragedy a revenge killing is not necessary nor should it be condoned at this point. however like Agent said above, i would have completely supported someone opening fire in retaliation to the brutal shooting, that man was an imminent threat and committed a forcible felony, lethal force in self defense wouldn't have been out of the question. however the problem arises as to was this guy really protecting his property from trespassers and went too far? I'm interested to see who gets charged with what in this situation if the shooter will be charged and if the offroaders will be charged with trespassing tickets etc.

I would think the shooter would most certainly be charged with assault with a deadly weapon and/or attempted murder. I don't know about OR, but here in WV you just can't shoot people because they wondered onto your land. You have to be in fear of great bodily harm or death. I would think OR is probably the same.

Judging by the post, it sounds like the offroaders were trying to comply and get turned around when the dude flipped out. Sad, very sad. There are a lot of crazy fuggin people in this world, my friends.

I see what you are saying, didn't mean to insinuate that you would act stupid...just a bit sensitive right now to senseless bloodshed.

No problem, my friend.

I don't know what's going on, but it seems like people are exceedingly crazy lately...

Someone should have shot him in defense of the other person, no question about it. However, the crazy fuck that shot in the first place doesn't have a leg to stand on even if it was private property. The 'Castle Doctrine' usually does not apply outside of the home, only inside of the home is it a plausible defense; at least in the majority of the states and I would assume it's the same in Oregon. Just because someone is on your property does not mean you can ?fire at will?. Plus, the guys wheeling on the land where not posing a deadly threat. I hope the courts nuke that fuck for shooting that poor dude!

If I were on that jury, the son would walk free.
