Really good mountain biking...

Good climbing...

Good skiing not far...

Milld climate.

I would gladly trade Los Angeles for it.

What he said, plus you're an hour or so from Moab, 20 minutes to Fruita, a bazillion acres of BLM land and heading East on I70, you're not fighting the front range traffic to some great skiing...not to mention heading south. Some will say the summers are too hot, and the temps do get up there, but nothing like the heat AND humidity of the southeast US.

There are lots of job opportunities if you are an oil & gas guy. Recreational opportunities are endless, although you still need to drive a bit further to get to the San Juans, where the steeper skiing is. Powderhorn is a good local mountain but I would not want to ski there all of the time. That said, they've actually had a decent year, FWIW. No one mentioned the fishing yet...great fishing! The mountain biking is so good many of the locals shun their noses at Moab. Like dirt bikes? I suggest you buy one or two if you move there, too. Camping galore on the Grand Mesa; lots of places to hike and explore. There are also good real estate opportunities as well. Your $$ will go a long way in terms of housing.

The downside to GJ is the lack of good restaurants/nightlife. The place closes down pretty early in general. There is a decent Italian restaurant on the mall downtown. There are some very good regional mexican joints as well. But, lots of fern-bar chain restaurants and honky-tonk bars, if you are into that kind of thing. Downtown is sort of having a revival so perhaps the dining choices will improve in time.

In general, GJ has a decent vibe. The potential for growth is there and the locals keep pretty quiet about it. Just ignore the naysayers; they form their opinion from what they see as they pass through the town on the freeway. Oh yeah, the freeway- don't live near it. Look for something SW of the freeway, closer to the Monument in between GJ and Fruita.

I don't live there, but visit often for work. Good luck!

Well I have been going to school in Wyoming and still have NEVER been skiing. I have never seen it with my own two eyes and the resort is only like 20 minutes from my house, I suck. But I am applying for the city fire department, so we will see how things go.

I live here........well have for the last 6 months....

yep lots of cool outdoors stuff to do.

Powder horn shuts in a few weeks, the monument is drying up enough to mountain bike, as the other's say its a pretty neat place.

I'm just prepping my camping gear for April, and will be racking the board till next year, greasing the bike and repairing the truck for moab etc.......trails for off roading......I've one that starts a mile behind the house.

if you like the outdoors...the place is cool.

plus you're real close to the 07 LR nationals. You better be there (or we can all camp in your front yard)! :D
