Has anyone here ever been Gold Prospecting or Gold Panning. If so have you had any luck?? Just Curious, I have recently become really interested in this for the simple fact that there is a gold mine just right down the road from me.

You're certainly in the right spot - it's little known but Talladega is the site of the third big gold rush in the United States. The first was in South Carolina and then there was the big one in the Dahlonega Georgia area. In 1848 gold was found in Talladega and a rush had started but word came of the big gold strike in California in 1849 and most of the miners headed west. A guy I knew from Birmingham said he used to go pan the streams in the Talladega National Forest and always brought some gold home every trip (he wouldn't tell me exactly where though). Your state geological department may have a geological resources map that may help you pinpoint some specific locations to try.

I am replying from my phone, but I am very into prospecting. I can answer some questions and point you in the right direction for others when I get near a real keyboard.

But you are locatd in or near the original US gold rush area. Good start and good gold.

The research I have done indicates that the area where I live (Cleburne County) is very rich in gold deposits. Mastercamper I agree that the chick on Cash and Treasures is smokin hot. I went to the Alabama Gold Camp(about 45 minutes from my house) and rented one of their HighBankers and we found alot of flakes and two real small nuggets (BB Size). I just do not like to rent equipment. Their set-up there is pretty neat. They dig out the creek and put piles on the creek bank and let you sort the piles out with your own equipment or what you rent from them. Their website is pretty neat also(http://www.alabamagoldcamp.com)
